I don't know the situations in the games for the goals already posted but surely Rooney's gets some respeck for the fact it's the winning goal in the derby in a season where losing could cost Utd the league to their closest rivals.

However, in terms of importance this is the best hat-tick/goal I can remember in club football (bicycle kick is 3rd) vs one of the best keepers of the last generation in Santigo Canizares (Kasper Schmeichel and Pepe Reina have said they base their game on him). Barca are trying to get into the champions league and they're playing Valencia who are currently in 4th - this is the last game of the season. Barca have had financial troubles and need to qualify. Rivaldo's first two goals are pretty awesome but it's 2-2 in the 90th minute when he digs this one out.......

No it doesn't. We were not talking about the most important good goal ever scored (Or Beckham's qualifying goal would pwn Rivaldo's surely?) but the best overhead kick..purely technical.

Disagree here. The stage is everything otherwise there are numerous examples of better goals than this in nothing matches or once a game is won.

Technical ability alone Van Basten >>>> everyone else.

If we're going to talk about the most important goal, then this is my favourite.

I agree with the baron here, there was something special about that goal just because of the game.

Yes, it's a great goal and especially in this game but it's massively overhyped, as the British media tend to do, and definitely not the best goal of his career. (IMO)
