I don't often play cash short handed, but I'll set the scene so you can understand how I ended up there plus you might pick up a couple of other titbits along the way.
I popped into Venlo tonight after I'd finished a job close by. I just decided to play with what I had on me at the time (160 Euros) and so plonked myself down at the 2/2 table. Within a couple of orbits I'm motoring along nicely and am up to about 220. I've a solid image at the table and my raises are respected.
One thing I should mention, is that I have noticed out here is that the Germans/Dutch really really hate re-raising in cash games. Preflop action generally goes early raise 6xBB and about 4 (or more) callers. If they do re-raise they generally don't do so strongly enough and just end up pricing each other in. BUT they really hate strong re-raises and it often draws comments such as 'why do you only ever raise or re-raise???'
Anyways...
A player comes to the table and instantly donks 200 bucks, with a very strange play that escapes me. Later he appears to play loosely but competently; he seems to like his gappers. He plays an 86 very nicely and a couple of hands later he gets in a pot with me and one other. Again, he bets well and (potentially) takes down top straight. On a 6879 board he scares off my opponent (shows 79) and saves me a wedge in doing so (I had 68).
Unfortunately the table begins to break and the stacks I had identified for targetting hit the road. Within 2 or 3 hands we go from 8 to 4 handed. I instantly feel uncomfortable as I NEVER play short handed cash, not even 6 max. But I've posted my BB so decide to play out the orbit.
The following hand occurs when I am on the button.
Villain Posts SB
Dutchy posts BB
Dutchy2 calls
I am dealt
and raise to 14
Villain raises to 62 (which is coincidentally about what I have been raising to when I have wanted to get rid of 2 or 3 raise callers)
BB and Dutchy2 fold
Villain appeared confident as soon as he saw his cards and handles a bit of table talk well.
I'm a little confused as a) the locals don't usually raise so strongly b) I don't play short handed cash.
So the pot is 80 and its 66 to call.
I have about 200 Euros total and he probably has about 20 more than me.
Questions:
a) What do you put him on?
b) Whats your play?
