Day 4 - Aiming to play a fair few, only managed a reasonable, but ultimately dissapointing, 31. This 4000 target is going to be a bit tough, I'm not giving up yet though.

Spent an hour or so giving someone tuition, railing their game and giving them pointers so that's my excuse for not playing more. I didn't mind doing it, teaching is a great way to hone your own game. I got just as much out of it as I hope the pupil did.

Day 4 Result :  +$367.5  (+$3191.3 total)
ROI - 42.9%

That's why I love STT, 50 buy-ins is an ample bankroll to take on the turbo tournaments, I've made over that in my first 4 days. Cheesy

124 down, the quest is 3.1% complete but 3.3% of my time has gone. Will have to make it up somewhere if I'm going to win through.

I wish you luck in your quest - playing approx 12000 $50 sng's just to win a seat in next years WSOP main event does seem a bit of a long winded way of getting there!!

Pokerstars will have made $60000 in rake from you and in return they will be giving you a $13000 package.

you get more than that Matt, can't find where I did the calcs but it's roughly a WSOP package, a 32" LCD TV a 19" LCD TV and still a few fpp's left over.

Tank thanks for posting this thread it's great motivation for me even though I'm miles behind in both sng's played and ROI at the moment. Perhaps I'll compare stats at the end of the month.

It's slightly concerning that the PS owners are talking about selling up or going public. ATM I trust them more than my bank but I can imagine saving up 2,900 000 fpp's and some muppet decides to scrap/change the VIP scheme.

Mine was just a rough calculation and as they have yet to announce how many fpp's are required to purchase a WSOP main event package i estimated that it would be around 1,000,000 fpps (as this is how many are required to purchase an entry into the €10000 EPT main event at Monte Carlo).

Tank needs to play 4000 $50+$5 sng's to acheive supernova status (100,000 VIP points) and in the process of earning these 100,000VIP points he will probably gain around 200,000fpp points - leaving him with a deficit of about 800,000fpp points.

Once he achieves supernova status instead of earning 25fpp points for a $50+$5 sng he will now earn 87.5 and will therefore need to play another 9142 $50+$5 sng's to achieve the WSOP main event package.

i used an approximation of 12000 $50+$5 sng's in case the WSOP main event package is slightly less that 1,000,000fpp points - but i cant see it being too much lower.

Until they let people know the exact details though it is all guesswork. Good luck in your quest as well!!

yeah I'm basing it on WSOP being 750K, 10,000 euro's is approx $12,000 isn't it? also there's talk of stars making it good value so they get tons of stars players there.

well they got over 1000 entrants in last years through pokerstars satellites and they weren't very particular about who they were as they even allowed monkeys. I cant see them making it too easy to obtain a seat in this way otherwise they will have to restrict themselves in how many seats they award via satellites which they wont want to do.

suppose we'll have to see how many runners they cap the main event off at this year.......

capped at 8000, why wouldn't stars want to take say 4000 out there and have a coinflip at having the winner again, they have got tons of publicity out of Raymer and Moneymaker.

They probably will want to take 4000 runners - especially if they can get people to pay $660,000 ($600,000 in tournament fees and $60,000 in rake) for every $13,000 package awarded!!

$240,000,000 in rake plus as much free publicity as possible for 4000 people wearing pokerstars merchandise as well as the chance of one winning the event itself.............. i'm sure thats what they are hoping happens in the Pokerstars Marketing Department!!!!  Cheesy

Here's where I disagree with you Matt.
My estimate is 800,000 FPPs for the $13,000 WSOP  main event package. Based on them wanting 310,000 for entry into a WSOP $5000 event and 145,000 for a $2,500 travel voucher.

Tank needs to play 4000 $50+$5 sng's to acheive supernova status (100,000 VIP points) and in the process of earning these 100,000VIP points he will probably gain around 200,000fpp points

Close enough, 242,250fpp if anyones interested.

So it would be an additional  557,750 points to get if one wanted a WSOP package.

will therefore need to play another 9142 $50+$5 sng's to achieve the WSOP main event package.

6375 more $50+$5 sng's by my calculations.

but.....

I'd like to make it clear that a WSOP main event seat for FPPs is not my quest, 10,375 sng's is probably as much as I'll manage all year. The mission is simply SuperNova VIP status by the end of April. I was intending to use the points for buying into other WSOP events and either buy-in directly to the big one, or win a satellite. I might use the points for other things as I see fit, no definate plan yet, but plenty possibilities.

I'll re-iterate that the main thing I'm getting out of this is the winnings from the tournaments.

The points are simply a way to motivate me to increase my volume of play, and in doing so, win more.

or lose more......Surely the thought of making $10000 a month in profit should be enough incentive to play as much poker as possible?

i understand what you are saying, as you know i only play on pokerstars and was interested in learning what this new VIP scheme would involve. I have no interest in added bonuses as i only play the game for profit, however is someone is going to give me something for free then i'm not going to turn it down.

The VIP scheme however is useless for regular mtt players who do not play stt's or cash games. I am a regular player of mtt's on pokerstars but i will be lucky if i clear the supernova status by the end of 2006 - and i play most of the big tournaments available.

That sounds logical, unfortunately it doesn't work for me like that in practise.

Before, if I played a batch of 4 and won two of them, I'd quit for the day, happy with the healthy profit and not wanting to risk losing it. In the long run, that's been costing me as my volume of play has been ridiculously low for a so called "online professional"

Admitedly, playing for the coupons sounds very silly at first, but it is working for me so far.

I'm glad they've brought the VIP scheme in, it's always been a bugbear of mine that the MTT players get their leaderboard and the STT guys get nothing, even though we pay much more rake.
