I don't know Scooby about how a NFL Fantasy League works, but reading this thread is the greatest thing ever. It's like watching Baseball on TV, all those stats & acronyms, & I don't have a clue what they mean, it's awesome.

Yesterday was great, with "picks", "drafts", "swaps", "trades", it was like Beat The Clock when Brucie used to run it on Sunday Night at the London Palladium.

Sheriff is Brucie, Phil, up in the Lake District is Norman Vaughan (swinging/dodgy), Tal is Bob Monkhouse.

I'm considering a change of name to Brucie now, thanks to Mr Teeks' post!

Just to update everyone, I've processed Sicilians outstanding picks, dropping Hester and a kicker (let me know if you want alternatives).

ForthThistle is on the clock, but currently at work, so he'll pick when he's done for the day.

We've hit the point now where people are starting to struggle with drops, so I'd expect people to be considering declaring themselves done at this point once their picks come up.  The other D-League I play, from which I copied much of the structure had passes starting in round 4 and no-one went beyond round 5.  Consequently, things should start to pick up in speed again (that's not to say anyone is obliged to pass their option at this stage).

For info, once we're done, I'll put in a waiver wire lasting 24 hours, rather than the usual 48, so that the free for all on Free Agents can start as quickly as possible.

In the meantime, I've got a redraft league to get sorted!

REDRAFT LEAGUE NEWS

Sorry for the delay with this, but the redraft league needed a bit of thought as to how best to work it based on the feedback for shallower leagues / 2 divisions, as effectively this means running two separate leagues and I wanted to find a way to include a combined competition.

Based on the interest list, it seems feasible that we could get 24 players.  We had just that number expressing interest (albeit one of them subsequently got hit with the blonde ban-stick, so effectively 23 for now).  Consequently I'm aiming for a structure of 2x12 team leagues, if we can manage it.  The fall-back option will be 2 x 10 team leagues.  Below that, and we'd be better off sticking with a single, deep league as per last season.

The division structures will be as follows: 12-team = 3x4players, 10-team = 2x5players, 16 team (single league) = 4x4players.  Obviously I don't know how many players we'll have yet, so it's dependent on the interest and signups.

With the switch to 2 leagues, I'm keen to avoid a hierarchy system so that we effectively have 2 equal leagues.  If there's a top division and a lower league it would suggest having bigger prize money in one than the other, or a lower league which pays out exactly the same as the higher one (so arguably you'd be better off playing in the lower league).  I also want to avoid all the rookies playing in the lower league as it would be better to mix things up each season and give everyone a chance of playing against each other over time.

Consequently, the plan is for two 'equal' leagues to be run side by side.  Both will have last years £30 entry fee and, as last year, £20 of this will go to the main league prizepool.  The remaining £10 will go to side-comps aimed at giving people an incentive to stay competitive for the full season.  The difference this time is that the side-comps will be competed for across the 2 leagues combined, so that there's an element of competition between all players in both leagues.

Roster structures and scoring are going to be the same as last year, as this worked pretty well.  The smaller leagues will ensure that there's more of a player pool in each league so there'll be a bit more depth this time.

Both leagues will draft at the same time on the previously advised date which is this Monday, 7th September at 9pm.  As it's short notice, the immediate issue to get sorted is getting the leagues filled on nfl.com so that the drafts can run.  I'll be a little more relaxed regarding fee payments than usual, as it's not fair to expect everyone to get payments to me before this time.  I know most of you guys enough to know that you're trustworthy in regard to this so the deadline for payments will be the kickoff of the first game on Thursday 10th September.  Any non-payers by then (unless they've contacted me and there's a genuine issue) will be replaced, if feasible, or will be treated as ineligible for any prize money so we'll figure the prize pools out excluding their teams.

The interest list is below.  I'll PM those who aren't active on the thread to chase up interest.  In the meantime, I'll do some sort of randomisation process to determine where the teams will slot in their respective leagues and will send out invites for you to claim your teams.  In some cases, this will mean you effectively get kicked out of last year's league and invited into the new one, so please don't worry about this (as 16 doesn't fit into 12, regardless of how I try!)

Experience of running this tells me that I'll be scrambling around for a manager at the last minute regardless, so anyone reading this who hasn't yet expressed interest is still welcome to do so, and I'll add you to the interest list.  I will try to honour the existing interest list as far as is possible, but if people don't have their teams claimed in good time then I'll start adding in others as necessary to ensure that we have a workable league in time for the draft.  If I've missed anyone out from the trawl through the thread then I apologise.  Just let me know if so and I'll fix it.

I have prize pool structures worked out for the two options, which I'll post separately on so that you all have the relevant info.  However, I just want to get the list of players out there so that everyone not-active in the thread can hopefully see they've not been forgotten.

Player/Interest list (20/24 team structure):
1   Sheriff
2   bobby1
3   ChipRich
4   linux
5   TightEnd
6   Marky147/LEXUS (do you guys want separate teams this year?)
7   Camel
8   sharplea
9   Longy
10   rinswun
11   Tal
12   ForthThistle
13   The Sicilian
14   Horneris
15   Ironside
16   TL900
17   Graham C
18   AdamM
19   KitKeeper
20   ruud
21   LeKnave (assume you'd want a team again?)
22   MattyHollis
23   Nakor (dropped out last year, but expressed interest in coming back)

NB: One thing I forgot to mention is that in order to Commish both leagues I'll have to assign myself as co-manager to one of the teams in the league I'm not playing in directly.  Just to confirm that this is for admin only, so the team will be yours and yours alone (whoever it is I end up with).  Will try to find a willing volunteer for this, rather than impose myself on a team, but just posting to highlight this.

REDRAFT STRUCTURE BASED ON 2-LEAGUE SYSTEM
As per the above post, the plan is for two leagues to run side-by-side with a normal prize pool competed for 'within league' and a combined side-pool consisting of competitions which everyone can compete in together (and which give an incentive to keep playing through the season).

Based on an unchanged entry fee of £30, £20 will form the league prize pool and the remaining £10 will be used for the combined competitions.  The combined competitions will be as follows:
1) Overall best 3-week aggregate score from any weeks of the season (as per last year)
2) Overall 1-week aggregate score (as per last year)
3) Combined 'Breakdown' league (this takes all players in both leagues and does the calculation that you seen in the 'Breakdown' tab on nfl.com - so works out the best team based on all teams playing all other teams in every gameweek).  If this can be done across the full season, including play-offs, it will, but this is dependent on every team having a fixture (so no bye weeks in the play-offs for anyone).  Failing this, it will be based on regular season results only.
4) Best draft result (this will simply use the season-long totals of the players you drafted, in the highest scoring starting roster available, regardless of how long they stayed on your roster or not)

The leagues, regardless of whether they're 10 or 12 team leagues in the end will pay top 2 post-playoff places on a 75:25 basis (so £180/£60 for 12 teams, £150/50 for 10 teams).

The side comps will pay the following, based on whether we have 20 or 24 players overall:
3 week aggregate comp: £120 (12 team structure) / £100 (10 team)
1 week highest score comp: £36 (12 team) / £30 (10 team)
Breakdown league: £80 (12 team) / £70 (10 team)
Best Draft: £20 (12 team) / £20 (10 team)

The relative sizes of these are to assign the higher prizes towards overall consistency and giving an incentive to stay interested throughout the season.  The 3-week comp is highest as I want to have a tangible short-term prize worth competing for (so even if your team when 0-13 in the regular season, you could still theoretically compete for it in the play-off weeks).  The biggest issue with any of these leagues is having an inactive manager so this is a way to try an incentivise everyone not to do so.

Hope you like what's proposed.  It's been tricky to figure out something for the separate league structure, but this looks to me to be a good way to keep everyone interested in what's going on in both leagues as they run side-by-side.

all sounds good

you need to create a second league, invite everyone randomised into that league to a draft for that one and run the two drafts concurrently?

is is worth trying to find a combined champion. something as simple as the highest aggregate weekly score from the two league winners, with a prize for that?

That's what the 'Breakdown' league is aiming to do.  It's takes everyone's results from all gameweeks and calculates the standings as if you played everyone else in both leagues each week (i.e. the top overall score in the week would get a 23-0 record for that week, the bottom 0-23, etc).  They're then added up across all gameweeks to determine the winner.

The reason for not making this a bigger part of the sidepool prize is that it should, in theory, be won by someone with a very strong chance of the main prize in their own league.  It still has an £80/70 prize but I wanted to leave something decent in the 3-week league for the reasons stated above.
