Moving House - Sky & Broadband
«
on:
August 12, 2011, 01:26:08 PM »
Moving house next weekend, and wondering what to do about my Sky and broadband.
Can't get cable where I'm moving to, so unfortunately that's not an option. I currently get my Sky TV and broadband through Sky.
I've had Sky for ages now, and my special rate that Mr Eccles helped me get is now finished. So I have the option of leaving them when I move and looking for alternatives for my broadband (via the BT line obviously), and can I then sign up to Sky TV as a new customer with a good discount on the package? Or am I best to tell them I'm moving but I want a discount on what I'm currently paying?

Worth a try asking for a deal, especially if you can find a credible better offer from another provider to use in the argument.
FWIW, I looked at alternatives a couple of months ago and decided that Sky was still the best option for me. They were excellent in getting the move sorted (albeit I didn't have broadband with them).

The first thing I'd do in this situation is go on a poker forum and see what everybody on there thinks.
Lot's of random opinions could be really useful in this matter.
Then I'd ring Sky and see if they might have any ideas......

Probably worth checking your exchange
here
to find out who has LLU equipment installed. Then compare prices of the ones that have.

If you ring Sky up and tell them you're thinking of leaving they'll give you all kinds of good deals and offer to suck you off*.
*Their call centre is in Scotland so I may have misheard her.

Already live with her, but yes, moving in to new house together - you suggesting that I cancel and then sign up in her name at the new address?

Just the standard ones on the BT exchange (Sky, BT, Talk Talk, O2, Tiscali, AOL, etc.).

What do you think? It is well known new customers always get the best deals call them and find out. The salesman will happily tell you what you could gain by opening a new account in her name as he would get the credit for the new sale.
