CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR

They were pretty average this year as we had a bug in the house so everyone was unwell and a bit grumpy although Max loved Christmas and his presents for the first time as he starts to understand about it.

Here was a photo of us as a family in Slovakia and shows how little Ivy has really grown up in the past few months but this itself is posing problems as he goes through the terrible two's and she plays him up and also is still not a good sleeper which makes us ratty with each other, rinse repeat, rinse repeat, so not all is always rosy in my world although I do realise how blessed I am when I see these three.

Took a lot of time to reflect on 2013 and since my Dad passed away I kind of judge my actions in life on the basis of "Would my Dad be proud of me?" and unfortunately in 2013 I could honestly say that would not have been the case all year round, I also thought about what I/we would like to achieve in 2014 in work/life/poker but more on this over the next few days when I will post up some goals for myself this year.

Been thinking about my goals/hopes for 2013 and obv life is gonna change again with our 2nd baby being due in the middle of March which is going to mean less travelling for poker events as we dont have a massive family network to help Petra out so I will be very selective in the events I play and will play more locally but am not interested in the local donkaments and am going to switch direction to online and live cash so here are my goals and again I shall review them honestly come 2014

  • Cash and have a deep run in a UKIPT - I have played 5 of these (obv miniscule sample but have only made day2 once) and although I may only play 3-4 UKIPT's this year I am gonna try v v hard
  • Post more on PHA - to develop my game but also situations that are bound to occur in the games I shall be playing, I was always worried of flaming in PHA but posted itt this week first in and Cambridge Alex and Tommy Langley both agreed which gives confidence to post more
  • Train 3 x week for 8 months of 2013 - as last year I only trained when I needed to and although in half decent shape for St.Kitts really want to get my body fat% down as for me it's about look as opposed to weight *further update to follow
  • Satelite into a foreign event ie a Unibet or St.Kitts style event
  • Play online at John Black stakes of /10c & 10c/25c and at the end of 6months review total hands played and overall stats before seeking some coaching based on volume which will help with the next goal
  • Become a decent winner in the local £1/1 cash game in Southend as on the few occasions I am there and have played have always done well (in before variance) and there is not a Reggy feel to the games so in theory this should be good for me
  • Be in Prague at the end of 2013 with Team Eureka and use it as a family holiday so Petra and the kids can be in Slovakia with the in-laws and I can dot back and forth
  • Most importantly to be a good Husband and Dad to my amazing family in 2013

So that's me for 2013  GL me again!!
[/list]
Pretty disappointing that I hardly hit any of my goals in 2013 but then again I spent the middle part of it recovering a life balance having knocked in a good chunk in the early part of the year.

I played 4 UKIPT's last year Edinburgh in Jan and bust day2 when short stacked, London in March where I min cashed and got unlucky vs Jason Duval in a big pot for dbl average, London in the Autumn bust to Robbie Bull Ak vKK in last level of day1 and then UKIPT Nottingham lost QQ v 88 15 off the money to leave me short on the bubble and then AK v 88 vs Chris Sly 10 off the ££ so was happy with these in such a small sample.

Posted a bit more on PHA but really should ramp this up during 2014 - 1/2 point awarded.

Failed to train at all in 2013 for any great length of time which has left me unfit and unhappy - this will be in 2014 goals.

Didnt play any foreign satts so - FAIL

Played on Sky Poker for 40k hand and am now moving over to Stars and will be playing Zoom in the first Qtr where live poker mtt's will be taking a back seat due to family/life/new business commitments.

Didnt play any live cash bar 1-2 sessions - FAIL

Was not in Prague - FAIL

Hmmm - gonna give me a fail for the last one and need to improve again in 2014!  Sad

So all in all I would give my year a 3-4/10 but 2014 is going to be a big year...

Time for an update in a small downturn at work where it is absolutely manic and we seem to be in a real upswong of property prices and all types of properties flying off the shelves with some selling even before the details are done which goes back to early 2000's to 2007 all over again but is definately fuelled by a lack of overall property hence the old "supply and demand" with prices holding/increasing daily.

Here are a couple of articles about our local market
http://www.southendstandard.co.uk/news/10828895.Southend_is_UK_s_house_sale_hotspot/

http://www.southendstandard.co.uk/news/echo/10907644.House_values_soar__but_fears_of_a_property_bubble_remain/

Having finished our yearly figures and having been in this office for a full 2 years plus the initial 6 month consolidation period from when the team and I first arrived here we have now grown our business by 100% and turned over £400k this year with costs of £22k per month it still means a healthy overall profit for our boss and obviously means they have tasked us with closer to £500k this year as it is never enough!!

These two photos have meant that since the start of January I have really watched what I have eaten and tried to cut out all the crap I eat along with some gym visits although these need to increase as well.  The first one was taken in St.Kitts in November 2012 and I had trained for about 3-4 months prior whilst watching what I eat and the second was in Slovakia in December this year next to Petra's stepdad and will act as a reminder that there is a "fat man" inside of me waiting to get out plus with historical family heart history and the fact I am 40 this year I really need to commit to get fit but I have started this campaign by cancelling my David Lloyd membership as I am currently paying £85 per month not to go so if I dont go then in 3 months I will let it expire and if I go I shall retract said cancellation DUCWIDT!

The one thing I love about living by the sea is the winter walks with the dog and family but this was taken on Christmas day just me, Max and Bentley escaping for a brisk morning walk along the seafront having layed a few flowers at my Dad's resting place.

Finally this time last week I was deep into day 1b of UKIPT Edinburgh where I had made a last minute decision to play due to the overlay, rounded up the usual suspects for a sweat and sold some action and then got the required pass out from the missus at 9pm Thursday evening which never goes down well when you are leaving at 2.40am the next day so off we went on a road trip.

I posted 6hours 20 mins which was incred and I was shattered by the end of Day1 and so glad I hadnt bust as otherwise it meant the trip in reverse plus I would have worked the next day on basically zero sleep.

this was 8am Friday morning

I really love Scotland and always tell Petra that she should come on some of my trips but she's having none of it and would rather be in her own house with all her creature comforts around her. Again I had a deep run probably made a mistake at the end of the day with 4 hands to go and then day 2 went well till I bust 20 off the money btn v my BB and 14bb's where the "Beltons" were obv never going to hold so back down south it was just leaving time to splash around the 25xxl at Dusk to break up the homeward journey before an early hours Sunday arrival back in Essex where we spent a family day out.

Scooters and dog walking are out now and replace with balance bikes!

In further rungood I shipped a UKPC Main seat this week (thank you ***!) so have put a 3 package schedule together for the team and it starts with Deepstack this week, UKPC Main, 6Max if required but hopefully will still be knocking around in the Main Event.

WPWP to Yian, Willy Tann and Outragous76 who also got through!

Property Of The Weekend

This is sympathetic to what is happening in Essex and London at the moment in the housing market where this 3 bed flat was given to me by an vendor who bought it off me 18 months ago for £178'000 and he spent a few quid doing it up to live in but 1year on and a circumstance change and with a value of £235k- £240k max we put it on with nothing but measurements and a few photos on Friday afternoon and had an open day of 6-7 people Saturday and today have 3 offers on it and it's agreed at £250'000.

I get home from work Saturday and Petra is telling me she has seen a new bed she would like to buy and could I go and see it with her, now it's an old Sleigh bed that she has hopes of getting and painting and distressing like some other furniture she has done for us and with her being the creative one out of us I just prefer to sit back and let her crack on.  I dont even feel the need to see the bed as it's a bed and is the same size as we currently have but just to humour her I say we will go on sunday before we go swimming as a family, so Sunday early afternoon off we toddle and I had a moment that struck me about being an "Absolute Punter" where having seen the bed I acknowledge it's a bed and will suit the required usage and tell her it's priced at £175 so how does she plan to negotiate?

She says she asked yesterday and they said they could do it and deliver/build for £150 so I say try for a bit more off by saying that you initially had a budget of £125 and could they get closer to that, off she went to neg the guy in the shop whilst I had Max who decided having run around for the past 20 mins he was going to have an accident (potty training ftw) which was imo going to weaken our negotiation.  As all of this was kicking off I realised my only bet of the day was £80EW in the market without the fav on a horse at 6/4 ( 5/2 outright) so whilst she was trying to get a fiver more off the purchase I was sweating the whole cost of the bed on some nag in the 2.55 Wolverhampton.

Luckily for me the horse won and she negged them to £140 inc delivery and build plus a blanket for her photography business and a book for Max who cried at exactly the correct time Wink

Back to work today and as part of our morning meeting I always try to give the guys a bit of motivation for the day so this was it today and was blasted out with the theme of the day being
"Pick up the F***in phone and make some calls!!"

Finally sold my action in the following events having binked a seat so the team for
£550 Deepstack this weekend - online leg
£1100 UKPC Main Event
if bust £550 6Max

team
Dubai 20%
RedFox 7.5%
RedSimon 5%
Big_D 5%
Tikay 5%
Outragous 7.5% main only

will update on breaks where I can on here as not in the staking board.
