Petra has recently took up a challenge to blog on her website for 30 days in a row after a seminar she went on and her blog is one of the underused parts of her business website
http://photographybypetra.co.uk/section622020.html and I think it is because English is not her spoken language so she doesnt feel she has anything interesting to say or is worried about the grammar side of it so I told her not to worry and just write about things within her industry or shoots that she has recently done.
I think she has done really well in the first few days and made her pick some of the topics in advance so she knows what to write about for the next few days.
She has recently started doing "Birth Photography" which is where she is with the parents to be from the onset of advanced labour and photo's in a reportage style and there is no one locally who offers this type of photography which can obviously be pretty time consuming when you think how long labour can be.
Petra was drawn to it after a conversation at a seminar and then she found this blog
http://epicdangerblog.com/index.php/2013/12/why-i-never-wanted-a-birth-photographer-personal/ about a lady who had 2 kids and decided to try a birth photographer for the third child, the video towards the bottom of the page is pretty moving but shows the reasons why people will get this style of photography as she catches the touches and moments that get lost in the birth itself.
So she offered on her facebook page the opportunity for 5 women to receive the service free of charge as long as Petra could blog about it and they were prepared to be interviewed afterwards by the local press alongside Petra so that she could gain some free editorial and within 2 hours she had booked the shoots with the first one taking place this week just gone however unfortunately despite the lady starting labour on Sunday evening she didnt ask Petra to go round even though she was ready and at 1am Monday morning she said she would call Petra in the morning when the midwife came back (she wanted a home birth) but when she eventually contacte Petra she was so far gone that she delivered whilst Petra was en route and a lesson was learnt by all.
Petra still did some shots though and if you are not squeemish as some shots are a touch graphic of the Placenta then here is a slideshow of the first one
