What home games does everyone on here play?

We normally play a £30 sit and go (nlhe) with 9 players but want to have change and maybe play a cash game, wondered what kind of max buy in every plays, plus what are the blinds you play?

So thought I would get some ideas on here, we still want to play NLHE but fancy a change of structure.

Keep to the SNGs.  I abandoned my home games last year after they got out of control when we switched to cash games.  Drinking till 8am and some poor sod always ends up £2k down on credit and not even remembering the hands where he did his pods.

what blinds everyone plays isnt relevant to your game surely? There are some very big home games that take place and no1 is gonna share details of them in public. So you're post seems a bit spammy

assuming this isn't spam...

It just depends on what everyone can afford, bear in mind though that cash games often get bigger than you expect, maybe suggest like everyone starts with 100big blinds and can top us as they wish. keep it small to start as it gets big quickly.

We play DC pot limit cash game. 10p 10p blinds £20 buy in amongst friends. Still some times £50/60 pots with certain games. The most anyone has lost is £80, just a social fun game with mates. Let's face it if you want to play for money go to the casino.

As Kev said, we usually do around 10p/10p. Personally, Iv been in for £200 in these games, but only once I think lol

No worries, was just saying, get a lot of very random spam threads starting.

Everyone needs to be playing well within their means or its really awkward  and people get a bit touchy when they lose a bit more than used to etc and isn't a lot of fun, If everyone there can lose £2k and not care make the blinds £1.£2, if everyone wants to gamble with like 1-200£ then make it 10p/10p or 10/20p with £20buyins.

Chinese poker is a fun game to play if there is 4 of you or less, less skill required as well

Given everyone currently whacks in £30 to the tournament then why not start at £10 buy in and blinds at 5p/10p? Gives everyone 100 BBs and they have 3 bullets for the price they currently pay.

I've played loads of cash home games and never had it end in tears. I prefer it to tournaments as people don't get knocked out so you can all play for a set amount of time. I guess the key is making sure the stakes aren't too big.

Used to have a home game 6 or 7 years ago where 8 of us used to meet up at 1 of our houses on a monthly basis. The first year it was really civil and generally would be unusual for anyone to lose more than £50-100.
These games were made up of 2 PLHE (£20 rebuy for 1 hour) and 1 game of 5 card stud and lasted through till about 6am.
The first year it went really well as all of were good friends of many years.
The second year was a different story, we decided to make a league over 12 months where 1/2 the buy ins were separated into a different fund for a winner takes all for the league champion. This format changed the way a couple of the lads played and were pretty much dumping £2-300 each month. The last game of the season was delayed for 3 month due to the fact that it was a 3 horse race for the title and £4.5k prize fund.

When it did eventually take place the winner was on a real heater and won all 3 games on the night and league prize totalling about £7k.
We havent held one since.

Moral of the story, dont let it get out of control whichever format you decide upon.

The main one being a monthly 35 FO which gets 15-20 players, 30 goes to the pot on the day, 5 to a fund for a final where the top 9 and 1 random wildcard play for a STT for about 1200 in total

The next 2 may seem odd but they work great

we have 2 x 2 day games each year, the big one being in the summer, this is a 10 man STT played over 2 days, 20k stack , 1 hr levels day 1 ( 40/30 min day 2 ) £75 buy in with £50 rebuys/add on for the 8 hours of day 1


This is played outdoors, with BBQ, loads of beer etc

A lot of fofks told us the structure could never work but it really does

the last game is a variation on the above, played indoors in winer, 21 runners last year, £30 buy in with £20 rebuys for 1 day , 21 runners last year

I been playing a £5 rebuy with 7-10 mates monthly for a few years now. 30min blinds starting at 25/50, 3000 chips to start, 3000 each rebuy. 4 levels of rebuys, then switch to a 20min clock for the FO phase. Usually start about 8.30pm and are done by 1am, which suits us all. Final pot usually between 60 and 100 and payout 65/35 if 8 or less, or 50/30/20 if >8. It's a fun game, very much not serious, and although I'd cheerfully play higher buyins, there are several people there who are comfortable how they are. The craic is the important bit, the money is irrelevant. The rebuys keep people around, everyone gets to play at least 2 hours of poker.

£5 SNG, 6-9 players, 1,500 chips, 2 hour game (blinds and levels deiced by poker genie) = 2 or 3 games a night, not too much waiting around and a good laugh.

Have to dissagree with you here Lee, although it depends who you invite. We used to run a comp followed by a bit of cash but the problem was if someone busted early they had to wait hours for their poker fix. Sometimes if we can get together in the afternoon we do play a fast tourny followed by 8/10 hours of cash.

Don't invite plonkers to your games and it will be fine.
