I've just completed 2 weeks of Atkins diet induction phase, in what is becoming an annual January event.  Gone from 11st 9'  to 11st 2.5' in that time

Diet basically eggs, meat, fish and tiny bit of broccolli, spinach, mushrooms etc + multi vitamins.    Hardest part for me was no milk at all in tea or coffee - I had to capitulate on that after ten days , but otherwise very strictly adhered to.

I'ld recommend it to get a longer term diet off to a morale boosting kick start. Calorie intake is pretty low but you don't get any hunger pangs due to v. high protein. I know healthy diet/exercise is the long term solution but this works for me.

Good diet if you can stick to it, places you in ketosis and your body uses fat as it's primary source of fuel and I know some bodybuilders who use it to strip themselves down.

Nice results from the first couple weeks congrats!

Starting weight - 10st 4.5lb
Current weight - 9st 13.5lb
Loss this week - 0.75lb
Total loss - 5lb
Target weight - 9st 5lb

Good to be in single figures on the stonage now and pretty pleased with small and steady loss in 2nd and 3rd weeks- fits in with my plan to drop the excess weight over a period of a couple of months. Gatso's birthday and apat team championships this week though, so breakeven at next weigh-in will be more than fine for me.

pleasantly surprised to see another small loss at this morning's weigh in.

Starting weight - 10st 4.5lb
Current weight - 9st 12.75lb
Loss this week - 0.75lb
Total loss - 5.75lb
Target weight - 9st 5lb

I've decided to drag myself over to this thread with my latest little challenge.

It's something I did previously on my own thread but now that it's in the new crappy diaries board nobody's ever going to see it anyway so there's no point carrying it on.

It's a strength challenge rather than weight loss. I don't need to lose weight because I'm reasonably slim anyway but I want to get strong again so I think here seems a good place to help motivate myself.

Some of you may have guessed that it's the 50kg dumbell press challenge. I simply have to lie on a bench with an 8st dumbell in each hand and press them both in an upwards direction. Easy!!

I've done it before so I know it's possible but since managing it my training's really slipped to the point that I'm now pretty weak.

Latest figures to follow........

20th December 2011 25kg x 16, 40kg x 8, 50kg x 4,

.........

15th January 2013 20kg x 10, 25kg x 8, 25kg x 8, 25kg x 8,

22nd January 2013 22.5kg x 8, 25kg x 7, 27.5kg x 6, 30kg x 5,

29th January 2013 25kg x 10, 27.5kg x 8, 27.5kg x 8, 27.5kg x 7,

Not much of an improvement on last weak but I'd already done 2 exercises before instead of the usual 1 which sapped my strength a fair bit. I'd also done arms yesterday for the first time in ages which wouldn't help at all.

It's really good to be back at the gym after a long lay off. My training pertner and I were trying to work out how long ago it was when we last trained properly. We think round about April time.

At that time I was maxing out quite a few machines and doing the 50kg dumbell press quite easily.

I'm thinking that if I keep this up I can get back to 50s by the middle of the year so that will be my challenge.

To complete 1 set of a minimum 4 reps of 50kg dumbell press by my birthday on 10th June. Must be unassisted, no spotter allowed.

As they say........ Let's GOGOGO!!!!!

I've just moved house over the weekend, but will do this with you once I'm not living out of boxes and no longer meddling with the dosage on my spasticity meds.

I'll go for 35s which is one notch up from what I was DB pressing back in Oct 2011 and adjust it if I hit it before June. (I want to break 100kg on the bar too, so that can be a secondary target)

I was probably quite close back then, I was doing 6reps of 80kg for my max set and imagine I'd have been able to 1rm 90kg possibly.

Do these figures include the bar? Also is this a free bar or smith. Why did I suddenly stop thinking about training when I mentioned a free bar?

I've always been pretty poor at barbell pressing. Max ever is 120kg + bar and I usually only ever did 100kg + bar for any reasonable number of reps.

This was at the time I was blasting out 4 sets of up to 14 reps on 50kg dumbells so I think there's a disparity there somewhere.

Maybe if I hit the 50kg quicker than planned I can go for a decent barbell score.

My mate's going for this challenge as well and his target's the same 35kg as you. He's currently on 17.5kg down from his max of 27.5kg when we were training previously.

Will be good to have a railer and someone to rail. Good luck!!

That's including the Olympic/20kg bar, so 60k of weights and lol @ free bar... I only ever did close grip on the smith when training alone.

140kg is poor [ ]

I presume that DB press is harder than BB because you have to control them independently and don't have a bar to help stabilise*

*I could be completely wrong though

Definitely will be fun to rail for sure gl!

It was poor for how long I'd been training and how strong I was on everything else.

I should definitely have been doing 3 plates for a fair few reps but could never get over the sticking point of 2 and a half. I even found 2 and a half pretty tough.

Chest was always my weakest body part. Back was best, then shoulders, arms, legs and chest. That'd be another nice challenge actually, get back to wide grip chins with 40kg strapped to my belt. Gotta love them wings Cheesy

Maybe that's why my chest was weak because my back was over developed. They're all opposing muscles after all. Perhaps if I concentrate on chest now I might be able to improve. Will see how it goes over the next few months.

Not many people get over 4 plates anyway, so to be doing anything above that is well above the norm I think.

They say that once you plateau you have to change it up and try to get over it that way. I only trained for a year, so never ran into any of those problems.

I was pretty strong on back, but always too heavy overall for chins and that's something I should aim to be doing at some point too.

Be fun too see what transpires over the coming months anyway.

What did you weigh in at? I was about 112kg so 152kg with the extra plates or just under 24st when I was shit hot at chins. I was a f**king beast at them though tbf.

Miss those days Sad

I started them when I was weighing about a stone less though and built my way up with no weight at first.

No way I could've just jumped in to them when I was at my heaviest.

I was just always differing degrees of fat, other than around easter 2011 when I was under 15stone for one of the rare occasions since 1999 when I finished my basic training for the Navy and was 13st 10 Cheesy

I was normally between 100-110kg and a completely different beast to yourself Cheesy

I'll look at them once I am back into training and have lost some weight I think, but that will definitely be a long way down the line.

I need to sort my hip flexors/glutes etc.  as they are very weak and in turn this should help my balance.
