http://www.caesarspalace.com/content/dam/clv/Gaming/Tournaments/CLV-MegaStack-2013-Final.pdf

does any body now how busy do thres get please

Quite busy it's a great room to play in ,but didn't skalie put up how much rake they take last year ? It was quite a bit .also few levels missed out after level 5/6 I believe ,best places to play with the slowest clock ,most chips and least rake is golden nugget or binions I believe ?

The comps on the strip take a savage rake.

You leave 10% juice and all the rest paid out to players behind when you get off at McCarran.

Just have to accept it and decide whether you play smaller comps with a higher EV or fields like the Rio, Caesar's and Venetian get and pay more for the chance for a big payday.

One man's meat is another man's poison.

If a group of 4 go to the Nugget, at least one of you will think it's a great venue+tourny that you wished you'd found earlier.  At least one of you will vow never to go back.  Pretty much the same for all venues.  No matter how smart the venue, someone will always not like the clock/dealer toke/structure too long/slow, breaks, too many runners/not enough runners etc etc.

But the good news is... it's Vegas!  It is fun to go and find out.  When the 2013 'Master Spreadsheet' comes out, It's very handy to have a downloaded version on you (or paper format if you don't have a phone/tablet with you that will deal with it) and then every day somewhere in town there will be a tourny that is the right format, right price, etc etc somewhere in town.  Then, if you have an unexpected early bath in level 2, easy to consult the spreadsheet and decide where to switch to for the 4pm/5pm/7pm event.

My personal observations were that Nugget was a decent schedule for the non-holdem players looking for a ~ $200 tourny.  Massive ballroom (the venue, rather than the spacing between seats..) and easy to valet around the back and straight in.

Binions was struggling for numbers and isn't a particularly pleasant place to spend a day in.

I played 1 PLO tourny in Caesars, I thought the standard of the dealers was excellent (the vast majority of the dealers kept count on the pot without the need for any stacking) and the one table SNGs were as soft as you could ever hope for.  The room is light and spacious.  I didn't notice the rake, but it is Harrahs so the chances are it is filthy.

Venetian I think everyone knows about already.  I personally don't like deductions from the prize pool for player of the series (ldo) but I do like the facilities there and the food options.

Rio I think everyone knows about too.  I hate it from the second I walk in until the second I leave.  But if you want to play the larger tournys, that's where you are going.  Horrible food options, pain to get to, cash games at night can be super juicy.

As above, I'd expect plenty of people to agree with that lot, and plenty to disagree.

Hi fellas going on weds for a couple of weeks, have I left it too late to get dollars anywhere with a good rate? Now am I stuck getting fked at the airport?

Few of the lads fancy trying poker for the first time, maybe a 25 or 50 dollar afternoon tourney, any tips? I'll be looking for the softest possible (!) 2/5 cash game, probably hold em as these sound soft, but any tips on where these are, plus any PLO? Never been at this time of year, reckon it'll be the same?

Also, as someone who has benefited from this thread via Marky, Simon and others, anything anyone wants me to find out over there for their future trips?

No experience myself of doing things this way, but if you go here http://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/ and search for $ by collection in London it should give you a few options and they'll be better than getting pinged at the airport.

Not sure if you can order from Travelex at preferential rates and then collect at airport too?

For poker tourneys it's probably best to just have a look and let them take their pick http://www.allvegaspoker.com/tournaments.php

If you get on a casino crawl along the strip, how is the construction coming along around the Carnaval Court area between Harrahs and the IP?

If you are out there during a F1 weekend, check the odds in the Wynn and Harrahs sportsbook after final practice with Betfair, some juicy ricks sometimes available.

For general spend whilst away (in Vegas or anywhere else) I've only just learnt about "zero loading" credit cards. No spread or fees added to spend in foreign currency so you get the "true" exchange rate applied to transactions and therefore get a better rate than even the very best exchange places

Obviously not for poker buy ins but food/hotel/general spend seems a good plan. I went for Halifax Clarity card

@ Jeff ~

http://www.thomasexchangeglobal.co.uk/  http://www.change-link.co.uk/  https://www.iceplc.com/

Those usually work out best of the bunch.  Depending on how much you are converting, you can work out if it is worth it to get the extra cent, but all of those can be done easily before Weds.

There aren't many 2/5 games in town, just the bigger venues and ofc they vary according to who sat down in them that day.  Bellagio/Venetian/Wynn/Aria and maybe MGM on occasion is about it.

PLO is Venetian or Aria.  The Venetian game plays a LOT bigger usually.

@ Karl ~  Skrill VIP ----> prepaid debit card in USD (and may as well have one in € too while you are at it) with no fees.  Then there is the best rate possible!  Win $1k, spend $1k.

@ everyone playing WSOP/visiting regularly etc ~ I'd also recommend thinking about opening a bank account over there for future trips.  $2k or $3k minimum balance = no fees on the account and then no hassles carrying chunks (or in my case, no hassles going busto out there, just cab to the bank and reload)

Every time money changes currency... you lose.  So if you win in $$ it makes sense to keep it in $$ end-to-end and collect it in $$.  Winning in $$, getting it sent to you in ££, then changing it up into $$ is financial suicide.

And for those that win/earn in £, you can still readily swap with those that are winning/earning in $ but aren't travelling and need to spend in £

One thing to consider if you're only taking around £3K is to use Travelex and use their Buy Back Plus option.  They offer pretty competitive rates (check the comparison tool posted above) and by using Buy Back Plus you're effectively borrowing US dollars for £3.99.  If you win you can convert the lot back at the rate you bought them for and keep any extras for next trip.

Plus they're at most airports, remember to order online first though!

There isn't that many afternoon tournies around, especially at that price. Most start late morning or evening.
The best value for the money is probably the Stratosphere. $45 buy on plus $20 add-on if you want to take it. This is probably the slowest structure for the buy-in in Vegas. Plenty soft enough too. Only on 11am, 7pm, 11pm

Not much 2/5 but several locals/dealers I have spoken to in the past often play cash at Excalibur as they rate it as soft. Like anywhere in Vegas though all depends on the here and now and the current line ups.  I just get talking to a few of the locals at the table and find out what/where they currently playing.

Apparently, there is a Travelex offer 11-1 tomorrow on a few currencies. Might be worth checking out.

Don't see any harm in playing 1/3.  They play with big stacks and pretty loose, so plays like UK 2/5 anyway.

Harrah's seem to charge a resort fee now, is this correct?

Maybe OP needs an update?
