Tennis in Paris this week
Wawrinka v Struff
Raonic v Carreno Busta

Wawrinka and Raonic have already qualifed for the WT finals.

Fragile performance from Stan in Basel last week. Struff has won 21 of his last 25 matches. Struff is 3/1 in a couple of places

Carreno Busta won in Russia a couple of weeks ago in a weak field. Last week he ran into eventual Champion Cilic in the second round, so he has had a bit of a rest. Last month +China he lost to Raonic 6-4, 6-4. Since then Raonic has had a couple of bad losses to lower ranked opponents and overall his hardcourt season has been quite poor. Carreno Busta is 12/5 in a couple of places which beats the exchange price.

Thoughts?

Difficult to say really as hard to decipher which Raonic and Wawrinka will turn up.

If pushed, I'd say leave Carreno Busta (I think Milosh is physically fit and has been practising a lot in Paris ahead of this event) but bet Struff.

Wawrinka has admitted to nursing a minor muscle injury, clearly isn't in great form having lost to Mischa Zverev last week and we know all about Struff's current wellbeing. Its also worth noting Sporting Bet are 2/1 on Struff, their tennis traders are fairly good.

Good stuff you two.  Thanks

yeah decided to leave Carreno-Busta and went with Stuff. Worked out. He is playing Isner today which is an interesting one. He lost a close three setter to Isner in Vienna last week so we have recent form to look at.

Interesting draw now. We have one quarter with Sock, Gasquet and Isner, all 40/1 and Struff 100/1. One of these guys will make the semi finals. A great chance for the them all. each way top 2 1/2 odds is still available.

Sock beat Gasquet twice on hard courts last season. He is priced as a slight dog today but I like him. You can get him at evens in a few places and a bit longer if somehow you have a Stan James account.

Gasquet has had some decent runs in hardcourt tournaments this autumn. Reaching the final in Shenzhen and winning in Antwerp. If you look closer though you can see he has had incredibly good luck with draws. In China in particular he had to beat nobody to make the final and in Antwerp the highest ranked player he faced was Edmund (I think we all remember that one!). Sock has beat Raonic, Cilic and in the last round in Paris Thiem during this hardcourt this season. I think he is improving. He also had a nice run a couple of weeks ago where he lost to Del Potro in the final in Stockholm and seems to me the right combination of playing well, some nice results, but not so many matches that he is exhausted.

Recommend £25 Jack Sock vs Gasquet at EVENS

I'm sure Tighty is too busy in Notts to look at bets today so the recommendation is moot anyway, but there are some interesting matches today. Any opinions?

Also Thiem looks absolutely shot, I asumme he will go to the World Tour Finals for the appearance money but he must be a great shot to go 0-3 there and I will be looking to oppose him almost certainly. He has simply played too many matches this season. Stupid thing is he is going to do it again next season and has already scheduled to play tournaments the two weeks prior to Aussie Open and then random things like a tournament in Sofia. Someone needs to have a word with him about his schedule.

End of season finals isn't a great event imo, I think this will be the first time in years when Murray will actually put some effort in.  Completely agree on Thiem, he is a poor indoor player, his return or serve is awful.  Federer had a word with him about his scheduling, he can't have thought fed knew what he was talking about.

Thiem is all about the clay for me. He has won titles on grass and hard but his shot weight and serve are massively effective on clay. His scheduling hasn't been great, hes out of form and hes been ill, people shouldn't panic about him imo. He will win a French Open in the next 5 years.

Yes he will possibly lose all 3 matches at the finals but he will be back.

Great call on JackSock Berg, up and down match, he was down a break in the 3rd set. But all in all, the better more in-form player won.

2 quality matches on so far, I wish Nishikori Tsonga was next, I hate watching Djokovic and Murray matches when they will obviously win and I've got my own tennis club mixed doubles final tonight  dont river me

Gasquet showed some surprising resilience which could bode well for him continuing to challenge for lower end titles next seasons, but Sock managed to get it done, thankfully!

Have to agree Horneris, thiem looks a good thing to win a French open, he has no stamina issues, he is quick, nice feel around the net.  He actually has a nice slice which he uses brilliantly on the clay, just a shame he hasn't used it more when playing Indoors instead of trying to hit winners when returning serve.

Quite surprised Simon isn't fav v berdych tonight.  The Czech looks a mess right now and massively on the slide.

The tennis discussion lately had been superb. Thanks for posting guys. I'm a total tennis fish, is del potro ever likely to contend for a major again?
