For those punting on the King George, & perhaps a shade too late for Fred, I just noticed that Paddy Power are offering "Money Back if your selection finishes 2nd to Long Run".

The T & C's are.....

Applies to singles only

Applies to Win or Each Way market only.

Applies to win part of each-way bets only.

Max Refund E/£100 per customer.

Applies to bets placed from 10am on December 23rd.

Paddy Power Horse Racing rules apply.

Does not apply to Tote Bets

Captain Chris is 11/1 with them, so don't see much value.  If you are backing Grands Crus the paddy power offer is the way to go, as he is the same price as he is on Betfair and you pay no commission and get the offer on top.  I haven't checked but you probably get better place terms too with Paddy Power.

Ahh, I see. I'd be dangerous if you guys did not look after me.

Still, it may be useful for someone who wants to back Grand Crus, as you note.

To what I am sure is my eternal shame, I had never heard of Captain Christy. Incredible story, that.

I really want you to start making stories up. Just once. Do it once.

"This reminds me of Go Outside, which won the 1952 Dutch Greyhound Derby. It was owned by Johan Cruyff's father, although he was rumoured to have been bankrolled by Cary Grant, who had enough rumours about him at that time without adding 'gambler'. Go Outside was the first openly gay winner of a major greyhound race on record and went on to enjoy a brief TV circuit career, appearing in game shows, adverts and the Belgian version of Question Time."

None other!

She lost - literally - millions of pounds to the ring, & this was in the 1930's. She was of course wealthy beyond belief.

She would often not get up all day, & only emerge at night, & then place her bets for races that had taken place that afternoon, via her Commission Agent, who must have made a tidy sum himserlf. The bookies always accommodated her of course, & for obvious reasons.

If anyone wished to read up on Golden Miller & Dorothy, I strongly recommend "Golden Miller" by Gregory Blaxland.

Round these parts, Golden Miller is held in such high regard we even have a coach company named after him. There, trivia of the highest quality, eat your heart out Tighty.

Ha!

Nah, I'm no good at making stories up.

The Captain Christy one is true, I promise.

And here is Captain Christy winning the Gold Cup, some extraordinary memories & names evoked by this clip, & I daresay MM remembers them all very well. Pretty neat commentator, too.

I just checked, the book, published in 1972, appears to be out of print.

When I send you back that book you kindly loaned me, I will send this one with it.

I didn't disbelieve you for a second Smiley

Just as you once had queen high in a lowball hand, despite betting on more than one occasion*, I merely wonder whether you might throw the odd curveball in with your stories...

Keeps us all on our toes after all.

*I read this on the internet so it must be true

Well we'd be interested to know if you get time.

To me, over 2.5 must be pretty much odds on in every Premiership game these days. But I just plucked that out of thin air.

sorry going on a bit tonight

the reason why i struggling with whether it is value is i do not really understand the dynamics of the under/over 2.5 goals markets

my betting records suggest i am to put it bluntly awful in the market infact

I fell asleep watching the India-Pakistan B20 thing, I only saw the 1st Innings, India got 3 x sixes, & Pakistan had an easy chase, or so it seemed.

We needed Pakistan to get SIX sixes, which was hopelessly optimistic, but I see they managed FIVE of the buggers.

Anyway, we fell one short. Can't believe that very tall bloke did not get a few.
