I still think generally they are awesome bets to lay i just don't think firms lay that many of them.  What price would you offer Federer one of his 4 kids wins a Wimbledon Singles title before they are 25 for example?

Interesting one for sure, and hopefully one of you boys with contacts will be able to snaffle a little more info.

I wouldn't know how to price Federer up for Wimbledon next year, so not even going to guess how to price one of his nippers up Cheesy

Onny has a little girl now and he is a decent tennis player (ranked in top 800 or something in england on the official rankings - top 2 in Cumbria) and he asked me what price his little girl (2) wins wimbledon and beats one of Fed's daughters in the final!!  So these punters do exist i suppose!

Haha, there aren't too many Onnys about.

I remember one bet that Hills laid was on Steve Gerrard to be England captain but this would have been only a few years before he got into the Liverpool first team. Think it was about 100/1. There was also a Wayne Rooney bet to play for England before he was 21 but can't remember the price.

The way it used to work was you had to write to Graham Sharpe  with an outline of the bet you wanted, he would get someone  to quote him a price and would then reply by letter. You then took the letter into the betting shop and they would lay you the bet as stated up to the max amount agreed. So I guess you could maybe get away with trying to get it on more than once.

spent a day in his office once just coz just wanted to see what it was like and he has some incred stories about laying weight loss bets to people, kids to play for various sports teams etc. The best story was that when Hills floated there was some panic because someone valuing the firm had realised that if Elvis was found alive or Alien life or the Loch Ness monster was proven then the firm would go bust and they needed accounting for and it took months to agree on how to convey the risk.

did  lay a £500 bet at 50/1 to a mad Greek barber in a betting shop in Sheffield that Paul Gascoigne's marriage would last for 50 years and that was with one Sharpies letters. I pointed out to mad Greek that as he was in his 50's he wouldn't be alive to collect but he still had the bet anyway.

As an former accountant/auditor i can just imagine the meeting at PWC or whoever their auditors were between the dullard suits!  Note 54 in the accounts for contingent liabilities 'well chaps how are we going to word this?  William hill has a £250m liability if Nessie is found or Elvis is alive'

All joking aside i could easily imagine accountants taking this 'risk' seriously and actually trying to get it worded into the financial statements to cover their arse!

Ahh, contingent liabilities & Accountants.

Perhaps unfairly, but generally speaking, I've found that Accountants & Auditors don't do humour, or common-sense. Clever people, like, but think in awesomely straight lines. Unlike, I hastily add, Actuaries, who are all wonderfully creative at thinking independently, & are invariably handsome & personable. Obv.

The Sharpey thing - they had to get a letter? Wow, the days of letters, SAE's, & even Postcards.

Postcards, of course, don't interest a soul these days. Or do they?

Yesterday, at Kempton Park (yes, the race course), there were queues & traffic jams galore. Why so?

A Postcard Fair.

An unusual Event, maybe held annually, you'd be forgiven for thinking?

Nah. There are FIFTEEN of them in July alone. And the same number every month.  A dozen or more Postcard Fairs every month.

Sorry about that, I got a little carried away.

It just resonated with me that we mess about punting & pokering, whilst we could be out there postcarding.

I wonder if the Postcard world has it's own versions of Pleno & the like, who do Level 5 Postcards?

OK, OK, I'll stop now.

So, back to business.

The Open Golf reverts to traditional pairings today, the early starters start very shortly, @ 08.35, with Rory & Rickie teeing off @ 2.40.

Yesterday's Open Golf article by Lord Grumps on Betting Emporium promised a mid-morning write up today, with thoughts on potential value. As he gave subscribers a 25/1 gee-gee winner yesterday (he only gave 2 horses in one race, nothing else, no other races or bets & they got 1st & 3rd at 25/1 & 8/1), I feel its worth mentioning that the BE Golf write-ups are free to all subscribers.

Will Rory win it today, & if so, can you predict how many he will win by today, Adzy?

And who will come though the pack with the inevitable & usual late rattle?

I assume you won't be needing my bf account today for hedging on the golf?  Looks pretty impossible we don't have the winner and at least 3 or 4 places from here.

Well I hope not, but keep the communication lines open please, as you never know.

Appreciate the offer, thank you.

Did you read the Post that KMac wrote, about his mini-seethe with BetEveryDay?

Have to say I was a little surprised to see his name is "Agnes". Never had him down as an Agnes. I more visualised him as Willie (?) the School Caretaker in The Simpsons.

Agnes. Hmm.

I was actually going to recommend a max bet on Rory at 2/9 on betfair even though we are already involved I just think this is an unmissable spot having spoke to numerous people about it last night.  It's a rare opportunity when the bf price is this wrong just because the worst result for virtually every book is hosing up and casual punters are fighting to outbid each other to lock in their 20/1 tickets on bf at 1/5 without really caring what price Rory actually is.

I might be the only person here who would not bet Rory @ 1/5. Yes, all that matters is it is VALUE, & it is.

But I'd never bet it. A snap-hook OOB, & you never know, especially with young Fowler being so impressive.

Not for me, I'm afraid. Am very happy with our book, & no matter what happens, it's been a great week here, everything I hoped it might be.
