Think blyth will be massively up for this for more then the normal reasons of derby and cup game. They also have a lot of former pool players, rejected youth players who will be out to prove a point. If Mcguire and wade start I think they will cause pools shaky defence all kinds of problems and they might not fancy it. There are the class difference and the fact the match is a shop window for players wanting off a sinking ship. Think blyths support will be pretty large and of course hartlepools, used to being very competitve when they find themselves in league 2 just wont fancy it.
Like you said hartlepool are favourites but spartans win way more then 11/2- 6/1 suggest. If blyth were at home Id make it evens with blyth slight favourites. Would have expected 3/1ish here
Blyth are rumoured to have 1500 fans there (probably outnumber home support lol)

Would DNB be better @ 4/1, as I'm sure Blyth would love a replay?

So you think Blyth are lower/middle league two side talent wise then if you make them even money to beat the team bottom of the league in Div 2? (ie you think Blyth are a better side than Hartlepool to make them evens with home advantage)
Come on let's get serious here. There is a huge gulf in class between these two sides (3 divisions and Blyth ain't even close to a team challenging for promotion from their league even with games in hand). One team is professional/one part time etc etc. I know all the romance of the cup etc but it is bullshit. Pullien in the post proved in one of his articles a while ago that over 20 years teams win cup games as often as they should relative to their league positions and there is no cup factor. In games like this i would usually suggest that the higher ranked team will always be the value, if there is any value, in the game esp in a local derby like this live on tv.
Obviously the underdog can win but i would be amazed if there is any value at all in the 11/2 currently available. The fact it's on tv will drive the mugs to want to back the underdog for the upset cus of the 'magic of the cup'. These guys never remember the numerous times the higher ranked team hose up 3-0 or 4-0 quietly. The bbc never mention 'the magic of the cup' on these occasions.
Don't want to sound harsh and shout the bet down but i feel we need to apply some reality to the situation. I will be backing Hartlepool if they get to 4/6.
This is a great story btw about the game

All the deece Hartlepool players, namely Baldwin, Burgess and Luke James, have been snapped up by Posh.
And turned Posh into Hartlepool.
Didn't Stelling say on SocSat last weekend that Pools have been playing better lately?

The betting market is fully aware of the result.
They may have been improving their play as of late though which won't be so much in the price.
All about the edges the wider audience can't see imo. Stats like who beat who are all built into the market.

"It's easy to keep their feet on the ground because they go to work the next day," Wade told BBC Look North.
"Some are working on building sites and are scaffolders, some are on oil rigs and all that, so it's easy for them to get back to reality.
"They're looking forward to Friday just as another game but with a bit of edge to it."
Even though Friday's game is a huge opportunity for the Blyth players, the fact the match is taking place on a weekday rather than a weekend has provided Wade with some logistical headaches.
"There are some lads at work on Friday, but that's how it is in non-league," he continued. "Their jobs are the most important thing, but they will be off about 12 so hopefully they'll be up with us by four.
"[Goalkeeper] Peter Jeffries is a scaffolder, [midfielder] Matty Wade makes oil platforms so he'll have a trying job and [winger] Jarrett Rivers works in a newsagents.
"There's a couple with physically demanding jobs but I've spoken to the people they work for and they said they'd look after them for me - so fingers crossed."
As a full-time, professional Football League club, Hartlepool will have no such issues in their build-up.
This is the flip side of the 'magic of the cup' which is never discussed. Amazed the vast majority of their players haven't booked the day off as holiday. Will surely be the biggest day in their careers football wise and the only time they ever appear on tv. Makes me want to back Hartlepool even more now.

Anyone read that double-pager in the R.Post today about bookmakers and how they will/won't lay bets?
Absolute comedy some of the quotes.
One of the Irish green rofflers sayed something like "if we want to lay £100k on a horse, we'd rather have 100 regular punters having £1k each than randoms".
Simon Éclair of Coral sayed "Over 99% of our customers are able to get a decent bet on."
Prob misquotes but that was the gist.

Didn't read it myself but Neil responded on Twitter and challenged him to go round the shops with someone and see if they can get on (that's the guy from Coral), also an ex manager from Coral joined in and said most PTL bets were declined and The Coral guy called him a liar!!!

Just been to my local balds to read it. Whilst i was there i asked for £1400 Hartlepool at 4/7 10 minutes before kick off (they have chosen to push out Hartlepool from 4/9 to 4/7 on their coupons) when bf was 1.6 and got offered £70!!!! Comical. Must be an arber!
Even more comical having just started to watch the match bald is Hartlepool's shirt sponsor!!

I bet in pretty bowl amounts (£10s/£20s) on horses, and I got restricted after a couple winners.
I just went to do a £10 treble tomorrow @ 50/1, and they offered me £1.25...
Saw on Channing's twitter that some lad said his old man got shut down for a few winners < 10/1, and he was only betting fivers
Remember seeing him on the Morning Line, giving it all the 'we lay plenty of bets', and Rob Wright pulled him up pretty lively on the fact they don't, at all.
