Justin Gatlin won the US Olympic trials in 9.80 tonight.....still 28/1 in some places for Olympic gold. I know Bolt is incred but he has form for false starting, plus there could always be an injury, and at 9.8 Gatlin must be one of his main rivals

This is a good bet but it will be gone by morning so it needs to be placed as soon as possible i would think.

Daily Summary, as @ 06:30, Monday June 25th

We had our first winning day for a while.

Fred had two (three?) new bets on the Italy v England football. They all came in and our long-term Andy Carroll bet also matured for a small profit - well done Fraser.

England beat the West Indies in the cricket T20 international with 15 sixes being scored. Luckily we didn't have any bets on this.

Despite an excellent last round by Hunter Mahan we lost on our golf bets. They were good value tips though.

We had a lot of good opinion expressed on the thread. Basically, the thread relies on the contributions made by a large number of posters. We have access to a lot of quality betting insight, let's not waste it. It's certainly not my intention to lose money for this thread so I try to make the best decisions based on the information posted.

What's coming up?

Wimbledon starts. I could flood the thread with tips but I'd much rather see tips from other people.

There's televised Rugby League and T20 cricket but, of course, our betting recommendations aren't limited to this.

There's Australian rugby league, snooker, speedway, racing and much more - please feel free to post your tips.

Mr Novice. I do not think that as acting Chief of Staff you should feel youare prevented from "tipping" on Wimbledon. My tennis knowledge is poor and is limited at the moment to finding the man to beat Federer- not his first round opponent methinks.

I tried to find a Rugby League bet yesterday but like tonight's game they all looked like routine home wins for the favourites. Betfred are slightly out of line with Wigan to win by 71 points or more tonight, at 20-1, but as it is a derby Widnes will surely raise their game enough to prevent a humiliating defeat.

You've called my bluff!

I really only have any knowledge of the women's game but I'll try to post a bit during the championship.

Outright market.

There are two deserved clear favourites for this event. However Sharapova at 11/4 and Serena Williams at 10/3 are too short to back despite grass being an ideal surface for them.
Serena had her mis-adventure in Paris and hasn't played since.
Sharapova also hasn't played since winning the French Open. She has worked extremely hard on her movement which has produced great results for her. Her serve has also improved (it was very weak when she came back from her last bad shoulder injury) but it is susceptible to problems in windy conditions. She will play all her matches on the feature courts so should be shielded from environmental factors.

Last year's champion Kvitova is not in good form and I don't expect her to feature. Azarenka has gone off the boil after a fantastic start to the year.
Bartoli is injured and so is Kerber to a lesser degree.
Wozniacki and Radwanska don't have a big enough game to win.
Stosur never seems to deliver at Wimbledon despite having a game that should really suit grass.
Venus Williams and Kim Clijsters are 5th and 6th favourites despite playing very little which tells us a lot about the chances of the rest of the field.

Personally, I like Ana Ivanovic (!) as an outside shot with SportingBet at 150/1. She has improved a great deal temperamentally since teaming up with Nigel Sears. However she has a hip injury and withdrew from Eastbourne last week so I'm not sure that I could tip her. Her scheduled third round match with Julia Goerges should be a good watch.

Basically I don't have a scoobie.
Sharapova and Serena Williams seem good bets to reach the final but the odds reflect that.

I'll try to waffle more on individual matches as they arise.

In case there is another free bet offer like Bet365's in the future I thought I'd post an alternative possibility for their use.

There are 3 main options for the offer:

1 - Bet £50 on an outcome, in-play bet £50 on same outcome - double winnings if it comes off, only £50 lost if it doesn't instead of £100. Fred's choice so far.

2 - Bet £50 on an outcome, in-play bet £50 on a different outcome - hope both come off for lots of winnings, only £50 lost if in-play bet loses, first £50 is on a different market so might still give profit/break-even/small loss.

3 - Bet £50 on a double-chance outcome, in-play bet £50 on the other outcome. Guaranteed profit, but not as much as the other 2. But guaranteed no loss.

Which one you go for depends on how much you want to risk/gain.

Fred has gone for option 1 so far, so lost £50 on the Spain v Italy game, but made a good profit on the England v Italy game.

Option 3 would have meant a guaranteed profit in both however.

Obviously you have to be careful with the odds but I have read that this has worked with Bet365's last 5 offers. I did it myself yesterday - bet £50 on England/Italy double chance at 1.36, then in-play bet £50 on the draw at 2.87. The draw meant a profit of £43.50. If either team had won the profit would have been £18.

Just a thought as obviously Fred has made a lot more than I did!

I don't have a mountain of stats to back this one up, but like it based on the comparative betting markets, and don't see either semi final as a foregone conclusion.

Can back an Italy v Portugal final @ best price 15/2 (or 8.4/1 on Betfair).

However placing a double on both teams to qualify with Stan James pays 9/1.

Recommending a small £10/£20 investment.

Cheers,

Jamie

Definitely worth considering.
