Sorry not been well but did anyone take up my tip of laying the favourite in the marathon?

Not sure I saw mention of it on this thread, Iron, sorry.

Doubt we would have got on, the price must have been very skinny.

my error was on the Olympic betting thread I would imagine the favourite would of been about even money don't think laying him would of been skinny a favourite has never won it

No worries Iron. We don't take tips off other threads, it's bad enough when we swerve a winner from this thread. And we inevitably do, & will.

No worries Iron. We don't take tips off other threads, it's bad enough when we swerve a winner from this thread. And we inevitably do, & will. 

I have seen an instance where a tip was appropriated from another thread backed to win instead of EW and at the wrong(lesser) price yet still attributed to the original tipster

Daily Report as @ 0600, Sunday August 12th

For the fourth straight day, we placed no new bets, & there was only one "recommend". Probably down to the final days of the magnificent London Olympics which, rightly, were more about watching than punting, though it might just be that Fred's charms are waning. On balance, less bets is probably a good thing though.

We finished the Olympics with Tighty's "3rd place or better in the Medal Table" getting home in style. The first few days apart, we were always in good shape, & it was the perfect bet for us, over 2 weeks of fun, & a bit of profit. (£100).

I'm not sure how we did overall in the Olympics, but I doubt we lost much, with nice winning bets on the Norweigan Women's Handball - terrific fun that one - & the Medal Table. To be fair, I missed quite a few bets, the sheer number of different sports going on simultaneously made it quite hard to manage, so there were a few mistakes & misses along the road. Anyway, we have a small profit to take us forward, so that's good.

I closed out a small (£5) losing bet on the Irish Greyhound Derby, (Robbiesgone again) too.

Our "Unsettled Bets" are also at an all-time low, at £222.50, being, in the main, SPOTY, Big Brother (what?), plus 1 x Football & 1 x Greyhound bets.

What's coming up?

In ECB40, a format which attracts almost zero interest here, the Warwickshire Bears take on the Kent Spitfires. Heaven only knows what Dennis Amiss & Alan Knott must think of those dreadful suffixes. The Bears are big favourites in this.

Speedway is televised live again tonight, with Peterborough Panthers taking on the Swindon Robins. Doubtless someone will tell me that back in the day, panthers roamed the leafy streets of Peterborough.

Football is back.

This Saturday, the Premier League kicks off, & tonight, on TV, there is the "Capital One Cup" first round tie between Oldham & Sheffield Wednesday.

This used to be the League Cup, or Milk Cup, back in the Day. Capital One Cup? I don't even know what they make or sell, but that's the idea, I guess, to raise awareness. I know what Milk is, so that must have worked.

Looking forward to my first football season following Fred.

Is there value in football markets? I assumed that these would be watched so closely that there would be little to offer the punters. Or is it the case that there are so many markets - and so many bad punters - that Value Town is a poor twin?

I don't really know the answer to that.

We did OK last Season (well, Feb to June), no idea what our Football ROI was, but we placed more bets & won more money on Football than on anything else.

There are some very shrewd football judges on here, and a lot of our value - I won't say "edge" - came from spotting value early, before the market woke up to mis-priced games. We did a lot of sub-market stuff, too, though I fancy most of the profit came from Max bets on certain football matches.

We got taught about odds, & value, too, especally as to some markets which are notoriously poor value - "First goalscorer" for example.

Most of all, we have a few contrarian thinkers here. Contrarian we like. Doobs is one I recall, but there are several of them. Doobs got roundly mocked for some "daft" football recommends, but he gave us some really nice winners. You need to be brave (and VERY lucky) to stick up Chelsea to beat Barcelona & not be bothered about the dissing. Did it bother him? Not one jot or iota!

The downside are the "homer" bets from folks who support a Team & so become blinded to reality. They are the dangerous ones.

Anyway, the Season is upon us, & maybe we'll do all our money, maybe we'll win a few bob. It's more about enjoyment than money, to me. I LOVE backing a winner, but the real fun is in the anticipation, the foreplay if you like.

I found some footy value last season! the team I tipped were like 11/1. We were 1-0 up with the oppo down to 10 men.. think we only lost 6-1. Roll on the footy!
