Glad some of us old men went to bed early(just up for my first old man pee).

You NFL kids are crazy.......

I'm glad I didn't stay up any later. Would have been reaching for the whisky. Now I'm just crying into my cornflakes, after my fantasy team snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

They say footbowl. I don't even think that one is deliberate.

Daily Report

Profit on Month £856.56

Outstanding Bets £2886.90

Free bets to use FOUR. One by 17th Sept with Ladbrokes

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aia1Hxq-NDNWdFk3UmlTSXMzTjRBTVNfOWRndVFsZHc#gid=29

A loss of £64 yesterday with four completed bets and four losers

We needed under 43 points at Plymouth which seemed a touch optimistic as very few RU Championship sides have the quality of defence to keep things tight, and so it proved as the two sides racked up 68 points for a £24 loss

Our bet on Mr Unspellable in the Vuelta suffered a puncture and lost for -£10

A horse at Woodbine might as well have been smoking them, and lost £20

Ya Ne Tseng did not place in the Evian ladies golf -£10

It could have been worse, with the Rams slightly fortunate to get a push, losing by 7 points to Atlanta

So, the interminable run through of longer term bets in which there was action yesterday

* Football

Southampton drew at home. A point further away from relegation or two points dropped, depending on your viewpoint

Reading drew at home. Not really Title winning form

Just the 180 minutes of watching without a goal in those two games!

* Racing

Orfevre won the Prix Foy and is favourite for the Arc in October. We have a free bet at 6/1 now 4/1

Ocovango was third in his trial. Again we have a free bet, which remains an outsider

* Baseball

The Rays lost again

With 13 games to go of the regular season the race for the two wild card spots could not be tighter

Team                    W    L
Tampa Bay Rays    81    67
Texas Rangers            81    67
Cleveland Indians    81    68
Baltimore Orioles    79    70
New York Yankees    79    71
Kansas City Royals    78    71

Boston won again last night and are now 9.5 games clear at the top of the AL East. A couple of wins/Rays losses and we are booking the £50 at 4-1 as a profit, offset by the Rays £150 bet to win the AL East

We need the Rays to get into the post-season, of course but it is not going to be easy. The Indians last 13 games are against the Astros, Twins and White Sox. Two of these teams are amongst the worst three in baseball, this season

* NFL

In no particular order

- The Titans scored 24 points to take their season total to 40. We need 376 for the season or 23.5 per game so are running slightly under that. Still, 24 points away to the Texans defense, encouraging. Incidentally the Texans became the first side in NFL history to win botrh of their first two games on the final play of the match *

- Kansas City beat the inconsistent Dallas Cowboys to go 2-0 and match their win total from last season. We have 7-1 on them to win the AFC West and it is a free bet. Going to be a huge ask to win it over the superbowl favourites the Denver Broncos. However the essential value call looks right, the Chiefs are much improved

- Miami, who we have 9/2 on to win the AFC East, also went 2-0 by winning at Indianapolis behind under-rated QB Ryan Tannehill. This is most encouraging as the Patriots currently have more holes in their roster than Swiss cheese.

- The Eagles, world beaters a week ago, lost at home to the Chargers 33-30. Oh. The fun here is certanly the Eagles offense which became the first in NFL history to have a RB run for 350 yards and a WR receive for 275 yards in the first two games of the season*. Sadly for us, the Eagles defense is at the beginning of a long work in progress. No thanks to the Redskins who might have lulled us into this bet as they looked utterly dreadful in losing badly at the packers this weekend

For the Eagles, the real encouragement is how bad the NFC East looks. The Giants and Redskins are 0-2 and the 1-1 Cowboys are as inconsistent as ever. So it might not be the toughest division to win

- Quarterbacks

Yesterday the passing yards were

Ryan 375
Brees 322, in a game delayed by tropical storms and lightning in Tampa
Stafford 278

In the passing yards season bet after two weeks....when the table updates we will be behind Peyton and Rodgers

Today

An important night for the Bengals bet as they play the injury riddled Steelers on MNF. Only one win in the AFC North this season, the Ravens last night, so not a must win but would like to see some potential

We return to the Snedeker, Donald and Speith sweats in the BMW which was rained off yesterday

We have a horse at Wolverhampton, Khajaaly in the 4.20

Athletico Bilbao play later

We have a £25 Ladbrokes free bet to use by close of play tomorrow

* Sorry, I have a limitless capacity to absob NFL trivia

Here's Orfevre after winning the Prix Foy. Can't help liking him after this pic

Meet Dontari Poe of the Chiefs. The most talented big ugly you've never heard of, a real force on the DL who helped the Chiefs win yesterday to go 2-0. He weighs about 24 stone, and runs the 100m dash in about 12 seconds.

Boston beat the Yankees again, but it was a night with a difference as the Red Sox celebrated the retirement, impending, of the legendary Yankees closer Mariano Rivera with a presentation at Fenway

One vaunted Quarterback, one less so. Score one for Mr Tannehill

Say what you see

Both sides see red at the Mad Stad. Only excitement in the game

It was recommended & placed as an EW Bet. These are not optimal for the "Free Bet" system.

Went to the Watford v Charlton game - wasn't great to be honest.  Draw was fair result.  It seems Watford have a lot of lightweight players.  Even the midfield enforcer Iriney (who had a great game) is all flicks and one touch passes when he gets the chance.

Watford went for an ambitious 3-4-3 formation, with Forestieri, Fabbrini and Deeney up front.  It seems likely that Forestieri and Fabbrini can't play in the same team.  They are thrilling to watch, but often end up on head down dribbles down blind alleys and having both of them in the same side is too much, but it was worth trying.  We were much stronger when Acuna came on up front as he holds the ball up, shows lovely touches and takes the pressure off Deeney.

Anya also made a big difference when he came on after being rested after his Scotland exertions.  Watford fielded "The Beast of Algiers" at centre back - Algerian international Assaid Belkalem.  Looks quick and strong, but needs time to get used to the English game.  On the negative side, he gave away the penalty with a mindless lunge and was booked for body-checking someone with his face.

All in all, it felt like we had too many offensive players in the same team and we need a rethink on formation.  Doncaster at home Tuesday, Barnsley away Saturday.  We need 4 or 6 points to be back on track.

For those hoping for a golf sweat this evening, it kicks off at 8am local, 1pm UK.

I think Luke Donald needs 5th for a place in the top 30 in the FedEx Cup.  I don't know if that us good or bad.  He should be playing for 5th, but does that mean his nerves go before he gets there??

Charl Schwartzel is 33/1 on Ladbrokes, 31/1 on Betfair, 5 shots back for an absolute punt on the free bet?  Some of us are on already.

Go on Sneddy, obv.

Thanks Doobs.

Odd you should mention a banzai saver on Schwartzel - I did exactly that myself yesterday, on the advice of a good friend. Think we might get on for Fred, in the manner you advise, too.

I shall be in the studio all afternoon, & probably most of the evening, too, so I'll miss all the fun. Bugger.

Well done on your Day One effort in the Winamax thing, too, & good luck tonight.

For those who do not read the Staking Board, Doobs played the big Winamax Tourney last night, & sold some action, & after Day One, he sits proudly atop the Leaderboard, 1st of 79, with 40 odd paid, & over €80,000 up top.

Schwartzel looks an ideal use of the free bet
