Right, that's the end of Tal's diary. Hope plenty got on the shirtless peppers

Worse thing about that - apart from Fred was Stan J barred from the bet - was the lack of sweat. (No pun intended). The very SECOND the camera alighted on them, bang, job done. Poor effort by you, really. We want 90th minute oohs & ahhs.

Afternoon Mr T.

With the South West under deluge my thoughts have turned to the tennis in Chile. It is the first clay court tournament of the year and our old friend Fabio Fognini is competing. He won 2 clay court titles last year and has soared up the world rankings. He played well in the US open till he got stuffed by Djokovic in the last 16. I am monitoring him very closely as I hope he could do well in the French open at a big price.

This tournament has 3 joint favourites in Fognini, Robredo and Almagro, but on present form Fognini should be  favourite.

Suggest £20 Fognini @ 7-2 with Paddy, Hills or Betfred.

Can always rely on hector, Fred's hot Chile tipster.

Nice post, JaffaCake.

Two guys on countdown today. The numbers game:

100/25/10/8/7/4 with the target 360.

Neither of them got it. That includes the trainee accountant with three wins so far.

I doubt Paddy would be restricting either of their bets for a while.

meeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaooooooow

Yes, that was a bit Cheesy

I used to watch countdown every day, before studies, work and life got in the way. The Countdown/15to1 double bill was one of life's great joys. I barely get to see it nowadays, though, and I'm always amazed at how far the game has moved on, with the contestants finding eight letter words out of six Qs, two Os and a Z. I feel like a complete outsider when I pop back to see it and you quickly feel like a total moron watching these people half your age destroy the numbers and letters game and buzz the conundrum before you've noticed the final four letters spell BART.

So, it's kind of warming when you see the contestants jointly have a brain-burp. They still score well overall, but getting a little fist pump moment now and then is to be cherished.

University Challenge tonight, where the questions start "Which Seventeenth Century Hungarian historian..." and I go back to feeling daft.

A curiosity for you Mr Tal.

There is another huge University Challenge fan on Fred, bet you can't guess who.

Clue - He is at EXACTLY the opposite end of the Posh-scale to you, he is lower working class, uneducated, & common as muck. Quite surprising, really.  He once got TWO questions correct on the same Show.

i didnt know you knew i was a uni challenge fan

davis cup tennis GB are in with a shout this year although we will have a tough match in the semi's if we can get past italy in the last 8

most places are 14/1 for GB to win but b/win are out of line at 23.0 betfair are about 17.0

i recommend a fun £5 http://www.oddschecker.com/tennis/davis-cup/winner

Don't think it is a genuine 17.0 on Betfair, there is a big old gap between the buy and sell.

In every match we need Murray to win both and somebody else to pick up one.  Feels a tough ask to me in just the one match, never mind us winging it 3 times.

If u can get 11-2 with BV or 5-1 with bfred  for Sir Steve Redgrave for the jump bet it, he was only 6-1 because he was injured, obvious after tonight he is ok. The price should go quick.

Think this was an old price oddschecker, and wasn't available, so hopefully nobody backed it.

Sir Steve is out

http://tv.uk.msn.com/news/injured-redgrave-out-of-the-jump

Given the attrition rate, maybe they'll struggle for a second series.

Marcus and Donal still in it for me, but haven't got a penny on the ringer.

Same as for me, I presume if he wins that's just how it goes? Seems odd they didn't have a market for "any other contestant" if they knew there was stand ins for people that pulled out? Anyway the way I see it any of them can win as it depends on the distance of the final jump, I think?

Edit, I just read the link and the last couple of lines say that Marcus cannot take part in the final jump due to his injury, leaving just Joe and Donal to see it out. Think I'll get on the phone to Hills!

Any price you like on Marcus on Betfair, no bookies laying, guess we are left with the two stand ins.  Davina tweeting about carnage.  Go Donal.

Our coup-to-be in the 17.40 Wolverhampton was the coup-that-never-was, sadly, the winner got right away from the field.

Is it Nirvana? Guy tries to beat me, every Monday without fail, in a Uni Chal type-off. Most one-sided battle since Stand Guard and Bix went HU for rolls at southwell tbh.

Isn't 15-to-1 supposed to be coming back? Expecting my invitation to go back on soon...

Corals telling me all bets stand at the moment, I got Steve at 5-1 yesterday so gutted if they keep that, Although Anthea top women (Thanks Joe for the Steer) softens the blow, Team Donal tonight, hopefully he will be more competition ready because he has Jumped more!

we have 4 good dbls players + andy murray
problem GB has is that we need andy to win both matches and the dbls to win as its rare that we are going to pick up another singles win
against the USA we were in trouble as even with andy playing in dbls it was unlikely we could beat the twins worlds best dbls team for many a year

but no other nation has a great dbls pairing

Switzerland are rightly favourites with federer and wawrinka and that would be a tough match
but its not certain federer will play davis cup this season leveling the playing field

i just think 23.0 is value when all the other bookies are 13.0/15.0

Does Marray not play Davis Cup for us? Isn't he one of the top doubles players in the world? Murray's pretty hands at doubles too, maybe we have a chance?
