A record 80,883 people turned up at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last weekend to watch the derby between the Stars and the Renegades, and another large, 40,000-plus crowd is expected at the Sydney Cricket Ground for the Sixers’ clash with the Thunder this weekend

Blimey.

I'm assuming they get in free, right?

no. its marketed in part as an ideal introduction to cricket for kids. which T20 is

short attention spans, bright clothing, sixes, dancing girls, music etc etc

give it 50 years and they'll be falling asleep on day 4 of the test match at Sydney.....

In our Big Bash thing, Heat play tomorrow, but right now, Strikers are playing Hurricanes (don't you just loathe those silly names?), who do we want to win today's match if it affects our bet?

Have you seen the size of the crowds at these Big Bash games? Astonishing. Anyone have the actual attendance stats?

this match doesn't matter for us

if the heat lose tomorrow we scoop*

if they win, we still scoop if the sixers win their last game

* unless the sixers lose their last game so terribly that their NRR falls below the heat

attendances are fantastic, game is marketed superbly to families and kids. great weather helps

our game T20 often played with games shoehorned into the schedule, with a lot of vested interests preventing a coherent marketing plan. and bad weather often doesn't help

If the Heat win we're done, as the hurricanes net run rate is horrific so they'd go above them. stars 8/15 to beat the heat tomorrow, despite missing 4 players to international duty (Maxwell, Faulkner, Boland and now Hastings)

Our t20 league needs to be moved to a block like theirs is, we had the ridiculous situation of Maxwell or finch playing 2nd team cricket for Yorkshire last year to keep in Nick as t20 games were only once a week. Another advantage to their big crowds is its 20 bucks to get in, which in the big cities is pretty much the hourly wage.

Do we have any free bets on WH to use up?  Might be worth some actual £ anyway, US election.

Sanders is shortening up, getting lots of ringing endorsements on mainstream news etc, recently out-polled Clinton in Iowa. While Clinton outscored him on terrorism and foreign affairs, Sanders crushed on values, truthfulness and honesty/integrity!

BF is pretty thin, but 12/1 on WH is better than BF and so if you have a free bet, would look a pretty good spot to use it with a view to having decent opportunity to lay off shorter later this month if desired.

no free bets. can back it with cash if you want...

New NYT/CBS poll: Hillary Clinton's lead over Bernie Sanders nationally has largely melted away http://nyti.ms/1l4icqo

My understanding was that endorsements from Senators, Governors, Congressmen etc was more relevant than polls this far out and Hilary has/had these pretty much tied up.

Was just about to recommend the Selby bet, but see it has already been put up. Selby is still the world No1 and he looked VERY confident last night in his win. He was potting without fear. If he gets ahead v Ronnie and can stay focused on the game, he should win.

I am not on him for this match though (only 5/4 now). It maybe worth putting some (recommend £10) on him to win overall. I can see 9/2 (which I have took). If (when) he beats Ronnie, I can only see Robertson being his main threat.

*edit - however, Ronnie has just been made 3/1 fav to win overall. I do believe the winner of the Selby/Ronnie match will lift the trophy. Any views or guide to betting on this?

I think the way to go on this for the jackpot is some big correct scores.  6-0 6-1 Selby at huge prices.  Ronnie could easily just chuck this in if the going gets tough.  Unlikely but not as unlikely as the huge prices on offer.

Extreme handicaps might be an option as well.

Cheers for the above. I think I will go for a 6/2 or 6/3 score win for Selby. Really can not see 6/0 or 6/1. Like you say though, it depends which Ronnie turns up and how much resolve he has on his 'comeback'

Betting against wayward geniuses carries a wealth warning.

What we are really punting on here is, as you observe, which Ronnie will turn up. Ronnie at even 50% of his usual ability is a match for most.  Ronnie with his head in a sling is a different matter.
