I have difficulty believing we are a credible threat TBH. We are very thin up front and have run well with injuries. I agree that we must be a huge winner for the bookies, though.

Moreover, this is a gooner thread, so you won't find many North London football team fans here. I'm the quota.

If you want to bet spurs to do well in the league, I'm sure Dubai can accommodate you.

Shudder...

Only Spoilsports are 16/1 anyway.

Not even you or Marky can get on with them.

Who said Marky can't?

Thoughts on Sam Baird after his decent run in a tour event in November?

 http://www.snooker.org/res/index.asp?player=76

Quite a few solid breaks without many centuries. This event is about getting in, occupying the table and making 40 a few times in a row.

150/1 with BetFwed

I wouldn't put anyone off backing someone they fancy at a 3 figure price in this event. If anything i prefer the lesser players as they are more likely to take it seriously and work on correct strategy for the format. Baird hasn't drawn a top player in round 1 so pile in Smiley

A run through some of the sports stories that have caught my attention while folding my way to 17th in a comp...

Firstly, and most sadly, the death of Jack Bannister, who took 1,198 wickets for Warwickshire and spent a long career commentating and broadcasting on the sport he loved.

Henry Blofeld said of him “The whole of Jack was tinged with a very wry sense of humour, he was always longing to pull someone’s leg. He was a true character of his age and we shall all miss him very, very much”.

Elsewhere, the sweet news is of a little lad called Joey, who has written to Manchester United, asking to be their manager when Louis van Gaal decides he wants to work somewhere else.

In a six page letter, Joey explains where the weaknesses of the team are (he probably mentions goalscoring) and where they need players (any left backs out there?). One day, he hopes to take the seat Sir Alex once occasionally parked his bottom on, in between rants at officials or pointing at his watch.

Maybe, someday, little Joey's dream will come true...

Comparisons are made to Gazza in 96 and Henry lobbing Barthez, but did they do this in the dark?

Could he be part of the team that wins the Premier League and then part of the team that wins the Euros? About the same chance as Sam Baird winning the Snooker Shootout, apparently...

Manchester United fans, be careful what you tweet:

Paul @AnderHolic

I swear if Charlie Austin scores the winning goal I will shave my eyebrows off and replace them with coloured in red ones

Whoops!

In the NFL, the Carolina Panthers fans will be desperate to ensure Quarterback, Cam Newton stays fit, when they realise who the number two is:

(Seriously, what is this Leicester City - Carolina Panthers connection?)

Eddie Hearn responded angrily when Amir Khan suggested Kell Brook wanted a 50/50 split of the purse to fight in the summer.

✔@EddieHearn

Incorrect.Your lawyer asked for 80-20.We have confirmed we will give you greater split to get it made @AmirKingKhan https://twitter.com/amirkingkhan/status/690552385392021504 …

Eddie Hearn

✔@EddieHearn

He asked for a £10m guarantee with upside to fight Brook with Kell getting approx £2 to £2.5m. After I spat my coffee out we said no thanks

3:23 PM - 22 Jan 2016

And finally, can this really be right? Photoshop surely?

^^^^^

Good stuff, Tal, thank you.

For those who cannot quite read the odds on that bookmakers board, which is at Galway Races, they read.......

4/6
6/4
9/4
9/4
6/4
6/4

Vey sad to hear of the passing of Jack Bannister. He was a one team man, & played for Warwickshire for no less than 19 seasons.

Dele Alli? I was only thinking last night, there are some wonderfully talented players coming through now. It's a real pleasure to watch Alli, Kante, Mahrez, & perhaps my favourite, the kid at West Ham, Payet.

Premier League football is so much more fun to watch these days.

On the downside, how did Sir Sherwood of Smugville get the MOTD gig?

Odds are nothing surprising. Irish tracks are not really betting affairs unless it is a big meet like the Irish Derby at Shelbourne amongst others.

Generally these tracks are used for pups proving themselves and to land gambles before selling them on and that is why the bookies are more there for show than to take a bet, they've been stung too many times and will still take bets even on this book on the dog that has been held back for this.

Daily Report

Profit on Month £341.52

Outstanding Bets £3553.88

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eCEvN9MELsUxB81rHuWrfoX3zwIMPQQ205Lcjm3kbgU/edit#gid=34

Winner yesterday, Glasgow 22-Racing 5 for £26, offset by racing and football losses

i have also taken the Leicester to be relegated bet as a loser

you might have noticed, but Leicester are top with 15 games to go

the English Pirlo scored yesterday

decent news for the Norwich to go down and Alex Neil bets

Watford back to form, now only 3.5 points off the spread bet price

Things are looking up for Manchester United, a year ago they lost to Southampton at home with no shots on target. yesterday they lost to the same opponent at home, but with one shot on target. United currently have their worst ever points tally after 23 games in Premier League history, 3 less than under David Moyes.

in yesterday morning's post, apparently

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/jose-mourinho-to-manchester-united-ex-chelsea-manager-six-page-love-letter-i-can-change-a6829971.html

Vardy and Kane both scored yesterday

16 - Vardy 15 - Lukaku 14 - Ighalo 13 - Kane, Mahrez 12 - Giroud, Aguero

updated relegation odds. 1/20 Villa, 2/7 Sunderland, Evs Newcastle, 13/8 Norwich, 15/8 Swansea, 8/1 Bournemouth, 11/1 WBA

some villa wins would have us in business for sunderland to finish bottom

QPR drew again. Charlton's charge to the playoffs began with a home draw

Leeds won, Preston lost and we are a few ticks up on that spread match bet

Wigan drew, Peterborough lost, Chesterfield lost

cambridge drew, elusively still away from the top 7
