I'm pretty sure that you or Arboy could not prove that 'almost every player ' takes the biggest offer
Unless you are privy to every offer made
Plus why are the very best players in he world playing anywhere but the PL if this is the case

Neymar not offered more than the £77k a week basic he earns at Barce?

'Lolz'

I don't know a great deal of footballers personally.   I have met several of different levels through various friends/contacts in the industry and in the vast majority of cases it really is just a job to them.  A couple i met spoke about football in a way which would shock most fans.  They literally couldn't care less about the game/fans and it was just the best way for them to earn money. No difference to the distain most of us would hold our customers in behind closed doors in our day to day jobs.  One of them played for England at full international level in the last 15 years.   I think most fans really don't get this and think these guys care about the clubs they care for.   Obviously the PR men work their magic selling this but the reality is somewhat different.

Think this is pretty much the case but I think they do weigh up other options aside from the immediate bottom line.   eg Neymar long term earning potential is better off staying at Barca than engineering an immediate big wage move to Man City.  Same (on a lesser scale obviously!) with Ighalo turning down silly money from China last summer as he had the confidence he'd score a lot of goals in the premier league.

The Vardy one is easy though - this is his last big pay day so can't imagine he'd ever turn in down.

Do you want Fleetwood each way 1/4 1-2-3?

go on

just a small bet please, its a bit punty because i don't profess detailed knowledge of Fleetwood beyond the lump they are about to get

10ew?

20ew?

15ew we'll split the difference

prepare for me to bore you silly if Fleetwood start well/sign players

Brace yourself...

Restricted!

£19 each way.

Fred gives me plenty, so have the £15ew and I'll take the £4ew.

Mark the day in your diary, folks. The death of the British Bookmaking industry.

Just looking on betfair relegation market someone wants a monkey on Spuds at 1000/1 to go down.  That your cash Tal?

Ha!

How much did you lay? Wink

You state you're opinion as if it were 'fact'
Now I'm sure there are plenty of footballers who see it as just a job , my opinion is that this is not 'all' of them , I have been friends with or been around many professional footballers and most are just normal blokes who realise how lucky they are and are not completely chasing every last pound because they have what they need and are comfortable in their surroundings
As I said not all people are the same in all walks of life , I personally don't hold my 'customers in disdain' even behind closed doors, as my business relies on them and I would think myself very arrogant if I thought I didn't need them

Fleetwood massively underperformed last season. Haughton had looked very good towards the end of the previous season; don't know what happened to him. They've lost Sarcevic this summer to Shrews. Wouldn't have them on my mind tbh. If they reinvest the entire £6m perhaps, but that seems unlikely.

Would be happy to take Sheff Utd in a match bet giving 20pts. Really think this will be their season. Replacing Adkins with Wilder is a massive step up and they have plenty of potentially good signings imminent to add to Duffy, Ricky Holmes and Chris Taylor among them.

Is Neymar not earning multiple times his wage in image rights, which wouldn't be the case in England?

These are facts when i am referring to the 'couple' of players i was talking about.   When was i ever talking about the whole football population?  You are clearly looking for a ruck and not actually reading what i am saying.   Maybe you are Larry David mark 4 who knows given the reference to my age which seems quite odd from someone i don't know.   I won't be engaging with you again.

I agree it should be Sheff Utd's year, given the size of the club and Wilder's appointment. The fly in the ointment is their ownership issues and all that brings to the club.

The rumours I've heard (which its important to stress are rumours) are that McCabe and the Saudi Prince who bought into the club for £1 have serious financial disagreements which has resulted in the Saudi guy being unwilling to put cash in.

McCabe (or his business) now owns the stadium and charges rent, basically to get a return on the money he's pumped into the club over the last 10 years, so this will be a drain on their budget.

The last issue is the whole culture of the club and the downward spiral its been in. Rather like Wednesday in the last 15 years - all the Unitedite's I speak to agree that the club is in a real mess behind the scenes and a new owner is needed before they can take meaningful steps forward.

Hopefully (for the good of the city) Wilder can get rid of the deadwood, find young motivated players and change the mind set of the playing staff which has obviously been unacceptable given their 11th place finish last season.

Good stuff Rick. No idea who else I'd like this season. Probably Millwall if they hang on to most of their big guns. And Posh to score 150 goals+ obvs.

Hasn't it been Sheff Utd's season for the past 5 years? Wink

Can't blame Vardy for leaving, a great opportunity for him. He's played his way up the leagues, so yeah he is probably minted now but it's not like he's been on 70k a week for all his 20s. I don't like the guy but can't begrudge him this move, and Leicester get a big whack of cash for him as well.

40/1 on them to go down is huge IMO. Unlikely to happen but not to be passed up.

Betting shop gurus...

I backed a dog in a short sprint race and it won, or so I thought.  The race continued on longer than the advertised distance and it turns out they got the distance wrong on the screen at ladbrokes. Am I due a refund or is it up to me to correctly check the distance?

Thank you

Which race was it?   Surely it was declared void and your stake refunded right?

Girl in the shop said no refund but I've kept the ticket just in case she was wrong. You think it should've been void because ladbrokes got the distance wrong then?
