Event 47: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Low Split 8-or-Better
Day 2 completed
Loube Leads Final 10; Finn Eyeing Second Final Table of the Series

Event #47 $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Low Split 8-or-Better continued on Wednesday as the final 141 runners of a 978-player field returned to battle through the money and onwards toward a final table. After ten levels of play, just 10 remained with Charalampos Lappas and his stack of 994,000 leading the way.

Lappas emerged as the chip leader in the last hand of the night, which you can read about below. We should also note that Steve Loube is hot on his heels with 947,000.

Other in-the-money eliminations included Alexander Kuzmin (111th-$2,509), Doug “Rico” Carli (108th-$2,509), Matt Vengrin (104th-$2,509), Andy Frankenberger (97th-$2,720), David Bach (92nd-$2,720), Joe Tehan (79th-$3,288; also his ninth cash of the 2012 WSOP), Allen Kessler (71st-$3,697), Warren Oberman (67th-$3,697), Sean Getzwiller (55th-$4,212) and James Dempsey (50th-$4,872).

Right before dinner there was a major chip swing — and a sudden, surprising elimination — over on Table 427. Following a flop of {10-}{7-}{2-}, Alex Gomes, who began the day as the chip leader, and Lappas managed to bet enough to put all of Gomes's chips in the middle and most of Lappas's. Gomes held {Q-}{J-}{10-}{7-} for top two pair while Lappas had {A-}{A-}{9-}{3-} for aces and the nut low draw.

The turn brought a {3-}, and Gomes was still good as far the high hand went, and Lappas had yet to make a low. Then a {2-} fell on the river, pairing the board to give Lappas the best high hand and all of Gomes's stack. With that, the start-of-the-day chip leader was dispatched in 46th place for $4,872.

When players returned from the dinner break, action picked up right where it left off as more than 30 players hit the rail before the end of the night including Justin Young (44th-$5,704), Chip Jett (35th-$6,747), Barry Greenstein (32nd-$6,747), Dan Heimiller (26th-$8,080), Lee Watkinson (25th-$8,080) and Dario Alioto (17th-$9,823).

Among the 10 players returning are Paul Ewen, Kyle Carlston, Paul Taylor, Sonu Sharma, Cameron Mckinley, Viatcheslav Ortynskiy, Charalampos Lappas, Tim Finne and Roche Cousineau.

Event 48: $3,000 Limit Hold'em
Day 2 completed
Berende With a Big Lead Going into Day 3

After ten more hours of exciting Limit Hold’em play, Paul Berende is the chip leader of Event 48: $3,000 Limit Hold’em with 331,500. His nearest competitor – Kenny Hsiung – trails by nearly 90,000 chips.

Day 2 began with 126 of the original 247 entrants, and Sam Barnhart started the day as our chip leader. Joining him at the top of the counts were Chad Brown, Ray Henson, Maria Ho, and Jimmy Fricke, but unfortunately, only three of those players made the money.

As soon as the bubble burst, we lost Maria Ho, David Steicke, and Michael Shelton. No more than twenty minutes later, we also lost Sok Cheng, Jeff Shulman, Chek Shen, Yakov Kirsch, and Jeramy Govert.

Twenty players will return tomorrow at 2 p.m. local time

Event 45: $50,000 Poker Players Championship
Day 5 completed
Congratulations to Michael Mizrachi, Winner of Event 45: $50,000 Poker Players Championship ($1,451,527)

And there you have it. Michael Mizrachi is once again the $50,000 Poker Players Championship winner! After a five-day battle with some of the greatest poker players in the world, he came out on top. Mizrachi adds $1,451,527 to his massive list of results and he will now be in fourth place on the all-time money leader board.

The final table started off with a massive bang as Mizrachi won three in a row right away. On the third hand of play, during No-Limit Hold'em, he knocked out both Bruno Fitoussi and Bill Chen.

Chen and Fitoussi Eliminated

Fitoussi started the day as the short stack, and he moved all in for his final 170,000. Chen made the call, Mizrachi three-bet to 400,000 and Chen moved all in for his 1.2 million chips. Snap-call.

Mizrachi showed {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}, and was miles ahead of Chen, who showed {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}. Fitoussi had {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and after the {K-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{4-Hearts} board, both Fitoussi and Chen hit the rail.

Chidwick Goes Next

Right from the start Mizrachi crushed his opponents, and it seemed like he was in a hurry to get to the winners party. Stephen Chidwick was the next one to go out, earning $253,497.

During Pot-Limit Omaha, Chidwick got his final money in on the turn with the board showing {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{3-Hearts}. Mizrachi tabled {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{2-Clubs} for a full house, and Chidwick was drawing slim with his {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades}. The river was the {3-Diamonds} and Chidwick was gone. Mizrachi already had almost half the chips in play at that point.

A Beautiful Run Ends

Roland Israelashvili was the most unexpected name at the final table, as he made the most of his $2,250 investment winning a satellite earlier this week. Israelashvili was the second shortest stack at the start of the day and earned himself $317,882 with his fifth-place finish. Israelashvili got his final chips into the pot in 2-7 Triple Draw when both Bloch and Mizrachi checked the hand down. Israelashvili ended up with a {J-}{8-}{6-}{4-}{2-}, but that was no good against Bloch's {8-}{7-}{5-}{3-}{2-}.

And Then it Got Quiet

Luke Schwartz was by far the most talkative player at the final table, and his needling comments had many players cracking up. Schwartz couldn't get anything going at the final table, but his fourth place finish is impressive to say the least. This cash marks Schwartz's first in a non Hold'em or PLO tournament and also his biggest to date earning him $406,736.

During No-Limit Hold'em, Schwartz got his money in with {A-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} and was up against Chris Klodnicki's {a-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}. The board ran out {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} and due to an unlucky river, Schwartz got eliminated. Klodnicki chipped up nicely and proved himself to be a real contender for the title. He took the chip lead, but that didn't last long.

Bloch Falls Short

Back in 2006, when this tournament was hosted for the first time, it was Andy Bloch who played a record-setting-heads-up match for the title against the late Chip Reese. In 2012 Bloch came close again, but this time he busted out in third place earning $561,738.

Bloch had a good shot at winning this thing with three players remaining, but eventually he ran into the brick wall that was Mizrachi. In Pot-Limit Omaha Bloch lost a big pot, and couldn't pull off a comeback. On Bloch's final hand he got his money in during Limit Hold'em, and both Klodnicki and Mizrachi called when he was all in pre flop. Mizrachi and Klodnicki both checked the {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop, and Bloch got heads up when Mizrachi folded on Klodnicki's turn-bet. Bloch turned over {Q-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and was facing {A-Diamonds}{J-Spades}. The river was the {8-Clubs} and Bloch was sent home.

The One-sided Title Fight

Mizrachi started the heads-up match with 10.5 million to Klodnicki's 5.7 million. For just a couple of hands Klodnicki got up to more than six-million chips, but from that point on it was the big Mizrachi show. Klodnicki stood no chance against the fearless, agressive and well-running Mizrachi who cruised to victory.

On the final hand in Omaha-8, Klodnicki was all in pre flop and showed {A-Spades}{J-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Spades}. Mizrachi tabled {Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}, and claimed the title when the board ran out {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}{7-Spades}{6-Hearts}{A-Hearts}. Klodnicki took home $896,935 for his efforts, but the massive first-place prize was for Mizrachi who won $1,451,527.

Event 47: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Low Split 8-or-Better
Day 3 completed
Congratulations to Steven Loube, Winner of the 2012 WSOP Event 47: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Low Split 8-or-Better ($267,345)

On Thursday, the third and final day of Event #47: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Low Split 8-or-Better played out as the final ten players of a 978-player field battled it out for the $267,345 first-place prize and 47th gold bracelet of the 2012 World Series of Poker. After eight hours of play, the man who walked away with the top prize and the gold was Steven Loube, a 34-year-old personal injury attorney from Atlanta, Georgia, who was playing in his first-ever WSOP event.

Heads-up play saw Loube begin with a 3-1 chip lead over Finne, and it only took a couple of hands for Loube to seal the deal, which he did by hitting a lucky heart on the river. Not too shabby for a true amateur whole told us shortly before his big win: “Like I told you guys before, my biggest cash before this was a $50 [gift certificate], good for food, but not for liquor.”

Final Table Results

Place   Player   Prize
1st   Steven Loube   $267,345
2nd   Tim Finne   $165,486
3rd   Roch Cousineau   $103,538
4th   Cameron McKinley   $75,151
5th   Charalampos Lappas   $55,479
6th   Sonu Sharma   $41,589
7th   Paul Taylor   $31,634
8th   Kyle Carlston   $24,386
9th   Paul Ewen   $19,052
10th   Viatcheslav Ortynskiy   $15,078

Event 49: $1,500 Ante-Only No-Limit Hold'em
Day 2 completed
Day 2 Ends With Final Table Set

Day 2 here at the Rio had the appearance of any other no limit hold’em event, but that image was quickly shattered as players dropped at a rapid pace today. With 110 players making it through day 1 only 9 made it through the end of day 2. The day consisted of tables constantly being broken and players being scattered around the room. The no blinds and only antes structure of this tournament seemed to bring in a lot of eliminations. Players were set to play 10 levels or down until 9 people were left. The rapid pace of this ante only structure allowed for 9 players to be reached with a level and a half of play to go, setting up our final table.

Jon Turner emerged as the tournament’s early chip leader, but a slew of beats and bad spots saw him exit during the middle of the day. Melanie Weisner also was forced to have a short day after Jon Turner hit a straight. Other players you won’t see on day 3 are Mickey Peterson, Dan O’Brien, Jeff Madsen, Mike Leah, and Thomas Conway.

Here is a preview of what things will look like for tomorrow's final table.

Final Table Chip Counts
Seat   Player   Chips
