Lost none of his hubris lol.

For me his teams are epitomised by that giroud celebration. He scores a quirky goal in a nothing game via a back heel. Different, but not iconic. Nothing in he Zola 04 or zlatan v England bracket  of esoteric greatness.

Then the next game they're are losing v bournmouth, a team genuine contenders tend to mop up victories against, he scores to pull them level. Instead of running to wrestle the ball to the keeper to get a restart and look for victory, he runs to the fans and does an effette dance by way of recreation. As though the goal was summat more special than looking to beat bournmouth. Worthy of recreation, as if people wanted to be reminded of a fluke goal instead of wanting to see a win.

Celebrating style over substance, being content with pretty failure.

Compare Walcott's inertia with oxlades desire to make a name for himself.

That's how most people will remember arsenes arsenal.

I think that's one of the regrettable outcomes of the last 10-12 years - I don't know how old you are but if he'd left Arsenal in 2006 not much of that would stand up to scrutiny. We were still second to an exceptional United over the 10 year period from when he joined, competitive at least in the Champions league on a few occasions, with a team that was ruthless, pretty fkn hard, effort filled and playing better football than most were playing then or have since.

Oh I lurved the late 90s / early millennium arsenal.

If giroud summed up latter day arsenal, then for me bergkamp epitomised his great teams : tough intelligent and outrageously talented and classy. Didn't like travelling to Europe much though.

I love this creation and wish I could credit it's author - shamelessly nicked from Twitter:

Last line sums it up better than I could :-)

It's the Telegraph

Hopefully that's high brow enough for debate and not dismissal

Arsenal war-chest alert...new manager will also be restricted financially after big squad spending of last two years on fees and a wage-bill that's never been higher. Summer budget (before sales) is around £50m:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/04/23/new-arsenal-manager-restricted-50m-summer-transfer-budget/

on such budgets, there has to be a risk that the lower end top 6 is the highest reasonable expectation?

Is there a price for thick players who think they're super smart - would like to back a Campbell/Adams dream team

Arsène Wenger says timing of Arsenal departure ‘not really my decision’

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/apr/25/arsene-wenger-leave-arsenal-not-my-decision

So it looks like Wenger got, at the very least, the tap on the shoulder, if not the toe up the arse.

Merson/Parlour would be much more enjoyable to watch.

Reckon he's getting paid his final years salary in full? Or just a golden handshake to finally clear off?

He doesn't appear to be a happy bunny with his recent comments, not the image Arsenal would want - or he would presumably want for Arsenal given his earlier comments.
