What is the point of this?
This is just a rugby fan with a chip on his shoulder cos football is so much more popular.
And he's just comparing apples to oranges.
Football is not supposed to be 'hard'. It's the beautiful game. There is an element of physicality to it but it is by no means the main element. What we appreciate is the skill, the artistry.
I assume most rugby afficionados appreciate the skill in their game over the 'hardness' of it. But if you want to compare sports that are hard, then compare rugby to similar sports that put a higher premium on physicality like American football or Gaelic football, or Aussie rules.

I just think the general sportsmanship/respect is better on the whole. Also rugby is not scared to try new stuff like rule changes/technology etc to improve the game, footy is soooooooooo slow in that respect.

The thing is I have never really been into footy anyway, so I'm pretty biased tbh.

I would agree on the sportsmanship aspect on the whole.
But as rugby becomes bigger and more financially lucrative, you may see that start to fray. It was still amateur in its recent history so a culture of fair play is prevalent. However money corrupts, rugby will discover this. Expect more 'Bloodgates.'

As for the rules changes, the 3 points for a win and backpass rules have been hugely influential in making football more attractive. More could be done possibly but football as a whole is in good health.
Technology is inevitable and coming (slowly I agree) but I'm not sure if it's rugby that taught them this lesson. I think it was American football. It is after all the American financial sporting model that football wants to emulate.

I grew up with a rugby union background and played the game for 35 years, however I am firmly on the side of league being a better game nowadays. It wasn't the case when i was a boy. I remember watching league being played in the depths of winter,on a boggy pitch, when a 6-2 result was considered a scorefest. But they made changes to the game, only 6 pieces of possession allowed, moved it to primarily a summer sport and instigated the use of technology to make it far more attractive.

Not being a fat bastard meant that I always played in the backs and I hate to admit it but when I watch union now I long to see a well executed driving maul, a pushover try or a catch and drive at a lineout. I swear that if I see a dummy scissors, or a sidestep attempted I will be cheering from the rafters.

I saw a statistic a while ago that England had gone 5 years without losing a scrum against the head. Admittedly this week the scrum had a pivotal effect on the game but that is all too rare in today's game. As for the lineouts, well they have become nothing more than gangly, homosexual version of Strictly  Come Dancing.

In too many matches the most influential person on the pitch has been the referee- that is simply wrong.

League players going to union because it is a better game? No chance. That is purely down to money.

In my perfect little world what would I like to see. A rugby world cup played under league rules but with all the best players from New Zealand, South Africa etc having been converted to league and trained accordingly. Now that would be worth watching.

Firstly this.....

Rugby League > > > > > > Union

Secondly I'm pretty sure I've cheered at football when a bloke has kicked the ball out of play

Rugby is the only sport in the world when the crowd cheer a bloke kicking the ball OUT of play..

Nuff said imo.

All Rugby players take so many big hits on their bodies and play on I am continually impressed. I watch footy games and despair, Drogba last week vs Nap was a disgrace, he deserves to be banned for life.
