If anyone hears of a laptop going on the cheap i really need one. My desktop has taken a turn for the worse so was thinking of getting myself a laptop instead. I know dell are doing them for £400 at the moment but was looking for something a bit cheaper. Please pm me if you here of anything. Thanks in advance. Dave

£400 is cheap for a laptop, they tend not to come that much cheaper I'm afraid but you can probably pick up something off eBay.

Dave,

might be worthwhile trying this company - RET, who sell all sorts of ex-lease and refurb computer equipment. I have no connection, apart from being a satisfied customer in the past.

They are sometimes a bit funny about dealing with "non trade", but worth a go - 01264 850885.

You get exactly what you pay for! I wouldn't recommend anyone getting a laptop under £400 unless it really is an amazing offer because more than likely it will be even more extinct within a years time than it is now.

Having said that you might find a good deal on ebay. This might be helpful: http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll?sofocus=so&sbrftog=1&catref=C12&from=R10&sbrbin=t&satitle=laptop&sacat=51148%26catref%3DC6&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&coaction=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search&fgtp=&a14=-24&a26444=-24&a25710=-24&a12=-24&a10244=-24&a26446=-24&gcs=1505&pfid=1830&reqtype=1&pfmode=1&alist=a14%2Ca26444%2Ca25710%2Ca12%2Ca10244%2Ca26446%2Ca3801&pf_query=laptop&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D3&sadis=200&fpos=Postcode&sascs=2&ga10244=10425&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&price=1&saprclo=&saprchi=400&so=Show+Items

Sounds like a wireless network for your home is what you need.  Speak with someone at PC World, and they will explain how to set one up.  Although some people have had bad experiences with PC World, I have never had any problems and they taught me how to set up my wireless network.

But in basic terms, you will need a wireless ADSL router to connect to your phone socket for your broadband and unless your laptop is wi fi ready, you will need a wi fi card for the laptop too.

You can then take your laptop to the loo with you should you be in the middle of a tourney and don't want to sit-out whilst you visit the little room.

You'll probably end up paying more if you goto PC World.

For the laptop check if it has built in wireless networking (or WiFi, or 802.11g) - that will be all you need on the laptop side.

In addition to this you will need:

Broadband connection
Wireless Router that works with your broadband (will be different if you go for Cable or ADSL) - expect to pay around £50-70.

Best deal on the wireless modems/routers etc at the moment is the 3com one, as they are giving you a free pcmcia wireless card with it (normally about 25 quid)

There is a company called big pockets or deep pockets (something like that try google search - I can't remember exactly) and they have a lot of refurbed lap tops probably about 1-2 years old and very reasonable if your budget is low. I think they mainly aim at students, but if all you want it for is poker , then I am sure it will be more than adequete.

Well it happened because monkeys are not very clever when it comes to items of technology, especially computers - so i got my jungle friend mr leopard to set it all up on my behalf.

He asked me half way through the installation process "what do you want as your screensaver" to which i replied "oh a picture of any good looking bird will do".

I think next time i wont ask anyone of a feline persuasion to set up my machine again!!
