It reminds me of the olden days...I think the phrase'back to square one' was originally devised by radio comm of football matches. Listeners had a grid with numbered squares and commentators would describe where the ball was on the pitch by using the numbers of the corresponding square. So 'back to square one' indicated that the ball was now deep in the defence of the team with the ball. You could use this to describe cricket too I suppose.

As for poker I remember watching live the broadcast on Pokerstars radio of the WSOP final table in the 'press room' at Binons. This consisted of two US pros commentating card for card and bet for bet. I forget the guys name but he is a big drinker and I think he won a tourney at The Bellagio in December.(Tikay, can you remember him). I certainly remember thinking how good  it was, they set the scences nicely and didnt just discuss the bets and folds, they disussed the thinking and strategy and made it very interesting.

So why not poker on the radio, i think the Pokerstars coverage worked well, could it not be an upgrade to the live updates? Tikay has such a great way with words. Maybe one day we will be listening to Tikay and Jen live at 'pitch side' describing every bet and fold. I think that would be great.

I like it bobby!!!

I listened to the cardplayer coverage at the wsop, and really enjoyed it! as the players try to make reads on what cards they have. Rather than just releying the information...

P.S

I also like the current radio show with the mouth on cardplayer, it works very well i think! BlondeRadio???

Hi bobby,

The guy was, as I recall, David Plastik, & I had the pleasure of meeting him again at The Vic a few months ago.

You have intrigued me with your Post.

Thinkng cap is firmly ON.

Going back to Vegas, it WAS fascinating to listen to David give commentary, &, more importantly, analyse the situations. Big bald bugger, looked like a baseball pitcher. Got to like him a lot.

Thats the guy, I asked around when I got back and was told'great player when sober'. He was a very nice guy, he kinda took Cupcake under his wing a little as I think they played together early in the comp. I think he burst into tears when eliminated( that might be wrong) and was very encouraging and very helpful. A sort of lovable rogue.

I can see you now mate, with one of those backpacks with huge wires sticking out of the top running from table to table to describe the action to an army of listeners. A little like challenge Annika but without the bum.

I imagine The Rookie & David Plastik would either get on very well, or there would be fisticuffs.

Leave my bum alone, it's reserved.

nice one red...

I think the radio shows would be good, news and views rather than music!

5live not radio1

I love the debates they have on 5live... they keep you awake on long drives home from poker comps! Just got to remember to change it back to radio1 before mates get in the car... i mean the car is embarassing enough!

Exactly Ian, 5live style warm ups and wind downs each night and player interviews galore from the big events, then live table side comms as it happens.

I think poker on radio could work as most events have plenty of railbirds to add atmosphere too and what about listeners lists.

If you were stuck on a desert island which five poker players would you want there.

Which five poker players would you like to have dinner with.

'Heids' top five records.

Which player would you like to get down with....apart from the missus or Mr.

And people could ask questions and interact on the forum.

Quick someone buy the rights!

Its like live at the bike type of thing, they get asked questions from people on the forums!!!

This place is a hotbed of ideas... I think VC tried this but went more music route, but that is wrong like we've said!

Everyone loves talking/listening to poker strategies etc etc as long as people are not just reliving their bad beat stories!

This would work, without a doubt and the live update idea sounds great.

I used to love those Monday nights on 5live in the footy off season when a panel of 5 or 6 would discuss sporting issues, would work for poker too.
