I prefer to be a pessimist, then days like:

Man Utd 1-4 QPR
QPR 6-0 Chelsea
Liverpool 0-2 QPR

are all the sweeter.

I admire optimists, but pessimism works best for me.

Expect the worst and you'll never feel let down.

In poker I am much like you have described there. Never getting over the top with minor wins or even relatively big wins, so that when the inevitable losses come in it isn't so bad. Generally setting up my stool to be fine with losing, but obv doing my best to avoid it.

But then you can lose your shit and go bat shit occasionally when you get that 5 figure score and you are right. It has only happened to me twice, but it does feel sweeter. Not even trying to be thin there, but just explaining i have the exact same attitude with poker and admire too that approach, but I think with football, it just isn't necessary.

But on reflection now I have just realised you punt a serious amount of money on sports. Even though you may not bet on QPR, it must seep over, so you should have that attitude, but it is a shame, perhaps, you can't treat it less seriously, as you may with some other aspects of your life that you can, just enjoy it for the pure awesomeness it can provide.

It's long time since QPR were awesome.

I hope for the best, I just don't expect it.

Ah, didn't you think you were great on your promotion year?

I know what you mean though. I only started getting noisy this season about Palace, when Zaha and Bolassie decided to bring sexy football to Selhurst.

Definitely not great that year.

Taarabt was pretty good, but the amount of lucky wins and scraped draws were incredible.

The Venables teams of the early 80s. Now they were awesome.

Les Ferdinand. Awesome.

Roy Wegerle. Awesome.

This goal:

Awesomest.

That beats the Ibrhamovich goal against England for me.

Because I knew I would never see a better goal for the rest of my life.

By my reckoning Palace have only ever been awesome once, between about 1989 to 1992.
Might not have been awesome football, but certainly an awesome team - Martyn, Gray, Salako, Wright, Bright

I dont consider the team of the 80s awesome and although the team this season have played some good football we are a long way from being as good as 'some' people would like to think.

Im like you Keith a pessimist that makes the semi final win over Liverpool, the win at Anfield in 1991 and any promotion seasons that much more special.

I remember in the 1980s if we were at home Watford would be expected to beat anyone as a matter of course.  Whether it was Man Utd, Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal, Everton we'd expect to win.  Of course it didn't always happen but the expectation was really odd looking back on it.

Of QPR I used to love Roy Wegerle.  What an exciting and creative player he was.  Makes Taraabt look average imo.

Been there, done it, Ant, most of us have.

The vehicle for my dreams, and RTG, was Brentford FC.

Go figure.

But when reality comes to us, it aint so bad, life still looks good. Boring? Not a bit, quite the contrary to see things more clearly.

Ashamed to say I lived in Brentford for close to 2 years and never once went to a match at Brentford Sad

I lived in Holland Park Gardens, just off the Kew Bridge and around the corner from the ground I believe.

Silly really when it was on my doorstep, I wish I'd popped along for a look if nothing else, isn't there something unique in it's placement somehow?

I knew without looking exactly what that clip was going to be.  I was on the lower tier behind the goal.

Still the best goal I've ever witnessed live and unlikely to be eclipsed.

Neither is that season for sheer, unadulterated joy at what being a football fan is all about.  Promotion to the top flight for the first time after 110 years and the realisation that you've been a part of something that could potentially be 'once in a lifetime' and that it was your lifetime that saw it.

Then you start to think about the people who took you to those games years earlier who didn't live to see it, and the tears come, and then you look around and everyone else is crying around you thinking similar thoughts.

26 April 1997.  Never forgotten!

I don't think our team are comparable to past great teams, and i believe there are maybe 10 teams better than us on paper, at least, in the championship, currently. I don't think we are that good a team. Which is why you see a lot of posts from me willing us on in spite of what form or ability can be suggesting and what not. It is not like I am saying as a team we are under performing I have been saying the opposite!

So assuming that was a dig at me, you are wrong to think that.

However, If i was to single out two players from this seasons team that I would say are the best i have seen in their position (since i have been watching, 10 years), are Mile Jedinak and when Wilfired Zaha was playing pre England call up. The former is monumental to our chances this season and we did so well without him for Charlton and Watford, but I am interested to see how we look with him nestling into the side.

Since 2003 I don't think Palace have had a better central midfielder, from this seasons performances. So yeh I am excited about him. Shoot me.

Boro 11/4 Palace slight odds on?

At those odds, Loofah shall be shoving Mowbray's Boyz in his Championship bets this after-lunch.

I quite fancy all the away teams in The Chump   ....     not really possible though, surely?

Loofah might do a few sneaky, quirky, bets to try to bash the book!

A very impressive performance from palace yesterday. Was like men against boys for most of the game.
The difference was having Jedinak and Dikacogi together at the base of the midfield for the first time in the league since New Year's Day. It frees up the rest of the midfield to attack.

Dobbie is different class. In the 2 and a bit games he has played he has looked superb.
Zaha had one of his best games of the season and murrays second goal had to be seen to be believed. Left foot strike from 20 yards into the top corner. If you watch him doing the shooting in the warm up he can't hit a cows arse from more than eight yards out!

I hope you got there Ant, if only to hear the whole of the Holmsdale end singing 'Theres only one Peter Ramage' along with the HF singing their own new song about him three or four times.

In summary that was how we were playing before Christmas. I just hope it wasn't a one off and that we can repeat it on Tuesday against Bristol city.
