A very impressive performance from palace yesterday. Was like men against boys for most of the game.
The difference was having Jedinak and Dikacogi together at the base of the midfield for the first time in the league since New Year's Day. It frees up the rest of the midfield to attack.

Dobbie is different class. In the 2 and a bit games he has played he has looked superb.
Zaha had one of his best games of the season and murrays second goal had to be seen to be believed. Left foot strike from 20 yards into the top corner. If you watch him doing the shooting in the warm up he can't hit a cows arse from more than eight yards out!

I hope you got there Ant, if only to hear the whole of the Holmsdale end singing 'Theres only one Peter Ramage' along with the HF singing their own new song about him three or four times.

In summary that was how we were playing before Christmas. I just hope it wasn't a one off and that we can repeat it on Tuesday against Bristol city.

I did get there. And share your viewpoints on the game.

I really do think KG played out of his skin with Jedinak with him. And the ability to have Phillips and Bolassie on the bench is always great.

Don't really see why we persist with Butterfield as he looked out of sorts when playing and don't think he should feature nearly at all if we can avoid it. It was good to rest up KG but i think he could end up possibly costing us, him and maybe Marrow if he plays like he did in the first half of Watford.

Peter Ramage had a stormer and i was very pleased with his save off the line and striker like finish. However, he still is that ticking timebomb in defence for me but maybe with this run of form he is having he will be a reformed player. He got embarrassed with the through ball for their goal but he couldn't do much about it. He also made a mistake to let a man through in the first half but it came to nothing. I like Ramage as a motivator and as a bloke from interviews, if he becomes more defensively solid as a result of two good games then i will be happy to shut up about him. I want him to be our man at the back, as long as he keeps playing well!

Zaha had Hodgson watching and was great all game. He has settled down now and I am loving that he is back.

I thought Murray was superb and had no idea he knew how to shoot from outside the box.

Dobbie we had been missing a player with his directness outside of the box for a while now so was great to see him darting in and around the midfield with goalscoring intent.

Phillips can come on and be a decisive finisher.

Williams had a great game and had some balls that were askew but otherwise fought hard and should easily start ahead of Bolassie.

I think I share the Camel's sentiments about our teams defense as a whole in that it probably isn't the strongest in this league and if we are to falter in the games running in it will be because of them most likely. However, I think Ramage shows so much heart it can make up for his technical deficiencies. Also too, Blake and Gabiddon have been out of so much action they may find it hard to come in anyway.

Looking forward to Tuesday night and will have to buy a ticket after what I saw yesterday.

Hmmm its a weird one.

We never had Williams fit for a while now and I think he adds a little more substance than bolassie. He cuts inside a lot and plays people in more and I think is generally more effective.

However it is a little criminal he has been dropped. Dobbie and Zaha both are on loan, and Williams takes one of those spots next season with Bolassie a good cert to start, then.

Bolassie is a great flair player and a great crosser of the ball with the ability to beat the man. However he has a terrible shot on him, is not known for slipping people in as well as Williams and the latter can create one cutting ball to put someone in out of nothing and his ball retention is superb too.

So a great passer and ball retainer over an explosive flair player with a deadly cross.

Williams compliments Dobbie well too as the latter is a very direct player, not afraid to shoot and Williams is more adept at slipping him in.

Actually, tbh, we were light all game on the left hand side generally, as Williams played much more of a central role, or if he collected the ball on the left, he would generally pass inside than take a man on and get a cross in. But worked fine as we were using Zaha so much more on the right for crosses.

So at the moment we have a super sub in Bolassie and obv the joker that is Kevin Phillips.

Definitely don't see what Holloway does in Butterfield.

And would like to highlight one more time that Dicgacoi and Jedinak were rocks in the midfield. With the former so much better than he was at Watford where he played poorly but explained he had only got back from Africa on the Wednesday and was tired, so a great recovery game yesterday.

Would imagine we will be 1.7 to beat Bristol City on Tuesday, and I will probably back at 1.8 or above only.

Ant - did you phone 606 last night.  Some Palace fan came on wanting Murray to start up front for England in the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers.  Smiley

Great result for Watford on the road this week, and quite like our fixtures to end of March below (although I am worried about the Ipswich game more than any of them as they have been far better under McCarthy.

Ipswich (A)
Derby (H)
Wolves (A)
Sheff Wed (H)
Blackpool (H)
Barnsley (A)
Burnely (H)

If we can get 15/16 points I think we might be in 2nd place at the end of this run before a tough final 7 games to the finish line.

Yeah - no player leaving Watford has disappointed me more than Kevin Phillips.  250k to Sunderland goes down as a disasterous piece of business.  We must have been skint at the time to accept that for our young top scorer.

Barnsley away is sure to be a toughie as well.

I think on Murray, he is a very intelligent attacker and creates so much space for himself with relative ease. His movement is exceptional. His heading in front of goal generally is very good too but has fluffed some recently. He isn't the best in the air from goal kicks for flick ons which is surprising, but he is good at holding up the ball.

In terms of his strength I would say he is no Grant Holt or Rickie Lambert, but he does do well to keep the ball and hold off defenders.

Weirdly, he is more of a finesse player than an argy bargy Kevin Davies type which you wouldn't expect for someone so disastrously slow.

The reason why someone rang into 606 about Murray playing for England would be because Roy Hodgson was in attendance watching Zaha, and we started the chant of "Murray for England" as a joke. So he has probably taken that idea a little too far.

I think it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to think we can win all of our remaining 7 games at home even though that does include Hull and Leicester.

I do think though it will be interesting to see how we play away from home. With Selhurst as our fortress this season we need to start imposing ourselves as we did to Watford away for the last 60 mins of that tie. I think it is definitely within the realms of possibility that we will do well away from home for the rest of this season.

I think Dikgacoi and Jedinak are the two most crucial players in the team, along with Murray, and obv now Zaha is coming to the fore, if we keep those 4 fit until the rest of the season, we could get 2nd. Especially as we have ironed out a lot of the problems we had keeping us from winning under our horried spell not too long ago.

I do worry about the form of Watford though and for some reason just think that Hull and Leicester are more likely to falter than Watford.

Generally speaking, from matchplay bets, I have won 8 and lost 4 on Palace at generally on average just a shade over evens, which is great and I have the £200 at 11/1 for us to get promoted still there too. And I will say after seeing Boro on Saturday I did the opposite of greening out and added $24 at 54/1 on Betfair for us to win the league, on the offchance we win every game at home and we win half of our games away. Don't even know if we did that if it would be enough to catch up with Cardiff! $2400 comes in for around a $50, altogether, stake there.

Would need Cardiff to have a severe fuck up and would need everyone else to simmer down too, but I have obv added more money there because I think at over fifties there is a touch of value at the very least. Especially with our squad looking so much stronger. We no longer have to throw on Jermaine Easter ffs!

Think I may be buying tickets to every game of our run in until the end of the season, unless the game is on Sky. Sheffield Wednesday tickets being booked tonight for Saturday and Bristol City tickets for tomorrow night already snapped up.

Let's do this.

I see the Football League have pandered to Holloway's outburts straight away and are changing the loan rules for next year.   Hardly a sign of strong leadership when the rules are changed as soon as any high profile manager throws his toys out of the pram live of TV.

Watford/Udinese will get round this pretty easily I think.

With just rolling, short term, permanent transfers?

Think they'll just move them for free Ant, as the 3 teams are effectively one big club.  There may be tax implications of doing this I imagine though (and I'm sure agents will put a spanner in) but from the rules perspective it will work.

Went to watch Cardiff on the weekend and was pleasantly surprised at how well they played. My mates are all massive fans and whinge at how crap Cardiff are playing and how they are grinding results out. Thought Noone was superb in the first half and Cardiff could quite easily have gone in 4-0 up. Campbell scored two and linked well with Bellamy but the guy I was most impressed with was Ben Nugent.

The kid is only 19 and has started a handful of games but he looked really composed on the ball and won everything in the air. His partnership with Hudson looks very promising and I think the kid has a huge future. Hopefully City gain promotion and keep hold of him but if they don't then some Premiership club will snap him up without a doubt.
