Sheffield Wednesday are bigger than Wednesday.

You can't really compare attendances that much as circumstances have been so different, but when in similar places we comfortable average more than United home and away, whilst having won more & numerous more seasons in the league.

I would probably put us as a similar club to Everton & actually bigger than Man City until the £££ came along.

Most predictable post of the day

Can't be bother to argue it, bit like telling Ant Zaha is over-rated :-)

I'm not too sure how can argue United's case really.

The only thing they have over us is the last 10 years, but if you compare everyone's last 10 years, then Wigan are a bigger club Leeds/Notts Forest, etc.

No.

but I am not spending all day arguing it

Blades/Owls..both big, pretty marginal and pointless arguing who is "bigger" both great old clubs

Owls and Blades are much of what I like about football.  Local fans, old large grounds and vocal support.  Added to the fact they have produced many an exciting team down the last 30 years.

Yep neither has support outside the local area worth shouting about, unlike the very big clubs.

Chelsea are gazillions in debt, but its to one man who keeps funding it. Same as Man C and all the clubs bought by new owners

I defer to Sheriff who would give more accurate descriptions, but none of these are solvent if the sugar-daddies walk away.

I think the same would apply to many, many more clubs in the League - quite possibly the majority, but it all depends as to how the debts are structured and shown on the balance sheet.

Barnsley are a good example of this, as they're generally reported to be debt-free.  However, when you look at the accounts, any shortfall has been covered by 'loans' from Patrick Cryne which would only ever become repayable in the event of promotion to the Premiership.  Technically, we're still in debt to him, but with little likelihood of this ever becoming repayable (and if so, the amounts would be dwarfed by the Premiership TV revenue anyway).

Given the proportion of revenue spent on player wages, I doubt that many clubs would be technically solvent.  If the TV revenues ever dry up then there'lll be another avalanche of administrations similar to the post-ITV digital collapse.

As for Chelsea, they're a good example of a club massively in debt, but shown to be otherwise based on how this has been structured.  This is quite an old article but it's a good example of the general principle.

Yeah, enjoyable away days for fans too.

I've been to all the local grounds and enjoy United & Barnsley (love) more than Doncaster, which is in such a poor location too.

I love Gus so much:

"Unfortunately I am getting used to this, we have played three games away from home in a week. The first game was terrible, then we were by far the better team at Bolton and lost 1-0 and today if anyone said Barnsley deserved to win then I should retire.

Hope he enjoys his retirement.

Poyet imo is not the greatest loser, spits his dummy far too much, and this 'we were the better side' is getting v repetitive.

He's a good manager though I can't argue with that.

I have yet to see him not complain, whine, moan, blame, spout excuses after any game. IMO a reet asshole.

He is forever my friend after saying that Holloway needs to "shut up.  Proper shut up" about the Watford loans.  I know he is buddies with Zola but it was nice to have one person speaking rationally out there, and love his choice of words Smiley

Smiley lol. Unlike you I have all day to respond to anyone with a problem with Zaha.

I know I am a liability with talking complete truth about Palace, but I love to hyperbole Smiley

So a lot of peeps posting today. Would like to ask you all for your top 6 predictions in their placings and the bottom 3. Should be fun to have a look at the end!

I will go first

And in a complete u turn from what I said this morning:

Palace
Watford
Cardiff
Hull
Notts Forest
Leicester

Millwall
Wolves
Huddersfield

Who cares about realism anyway, gonna make this happen out of pure hope.

I'm serious about the Sheffield question.  No idea who is bigger - would probably go for United if pushed just from my own personal experiences.

I'm a Wednesday fan, so you might expect this but in every aspect Wednesday have been and still are a bigger club than United.

Whether its crowds over the year, footballing success and trophies won, stadium etc, Wednesday are a bigger club.

United had what, one season in the Premiership I think and haven't won a trophy since 1935.

Wednesday have had a dreadful last 15 years but do have a history of being a top 10 English club.
