Slight brag post about becoming a father for the first time! Cheesy baby girl born on the 24th weighing a not so small 9pound 6ounces!

Anyway.... We are looking to open a savings account for her. Any blondes have any experience? Do we have to open an account where one of us banks or can we go anywhere? We don't want an ISA where you can't touch it till she is 18 as she will use her savings to give her an idea of money when suitable.

Any help greatly appreciated....

Firstly congrats. We have a 3 month old girl. Tiring times ahead mate! Bank wise the deal seemed to be if it's with a firm either of you already bank with you can just walk in and set up an account no problems. If it's a new bank you need to get birth certificate, id, utilitiy bill and all that jazz and go through the usual hastle.

Shipping her off to Singapore at 6 months. Get knitting some garms and send the 12p per week wage back home.

Congratulations - a lifetime of joy (and worry) awaits.

As stated most banks / building societies offer some form of children's savings account.

Depending on how much you are looking to save you should consider investments in addition to savings - we even have parents and grandparents making pension contributions!

Also, time to review your family protection (life assurance, income protection, Wills, etc.) should the worst happen to mum or dad.

I'm an Independent Financial Adviser if you want to PM me.

Also we can sort out £10,000 of free life cover until baby’s first birthday. If both parents apply they could have £20,000 of free life cover. (clearly not enough and only lasts for a short while but gives baby and survivor some money to help a little should the worst happen).

The above is naturally guidance only and should not be regarded as individual advice.

at which stage they may not want to spend time with you unless you are either driving, or carrying cash

Congratulations though - my two girls have brought me many hours of joy
