Yes, became a city last year or the year before. Was a question on university challenge a few weeks back and none of the teams got it and I felt smug (for about 20 seconds until the next question about English Literature).
Dafydd (jizzem on here) lives there and runs a pub there. It's under a lot of water at the moment I believe.

Yeah, was just reading about the flood there, that's how I found out it was a city.
Ely, Ripon, Truro and Wells are all cities in England with < 20,000 populatoin.
But I've heard of all of those!

It only got city status very recently, and lots of towns applied for the status and only a few were selected. Northampton obviously passed over again.

If only Northampton had a decent colonic irrigation practitioner I'm sure they'd pass.

I only know because it's local, it's possess the most beautiful racetrack I've ever visited and said racecourse holds a race called "The City of Ripon stakes"

Yeah, they thought they'd found one - but they looked at her prices and decided she was a comedienne!

I thought St Asaph was a City based on the Cathedral. Didn't realise it was a recent grant. I guess that there are a few that lost out in the 19th century breaking of the links between catherdral and status that have been compensated like this, later.

It only took a debate about the smallest city in Britain to winkle Robert out from his rabbithole.
WB sir.
