Background
Playing for 4 hours at 1/1 @ The Vic...so probs only about 100 hands.
9 handed, my half the table all capable players, the other half a mix of donks and super nits.
My image? I kinda sullied it early doors, bluffing on superwet board with vg Frenchie (I know!) calling me off with A high. Its done me wonders, as I've been paid in future pots...although there have also been the usual 'fold to your bluff' type remarks.
Villain is American; has very flatteringly stated he's a little shocked at the standard of plays from our end of the table..for a 1/1 game. He's also said he's finding it difficult to assign ranges to me. I guess I'm viewed a little LAG.
The Hand
EP caller and then
Folds around to supernit on btn who raises to 6
I'm in SB with
- I raise to 16
Villain in BB calls
EP folds
Btn calls
Pot £49
Flop:
I lead out for £20
Villain flats
Btn Folds
Pot £89
Turn:
I check to induce
Villain checks behind
River:
I put out a bet of £40
Villain dwells, shoves in £94 total
Pot is £223
We?
What's he got?

well i'm not folding
bet something on the turn, so you can jam river.
yeah he could have
but could also have all the other sets and even 2 pairs
i suspect a 50p moment

Snapping without a second thought.
Would prefer you to bet turn with your image. Probably looks weirder with a LAG image when you check than when you bet, also checking to induce doesn't really work against nits because they like pot controlling and checking streets (espec the turn after facing c-bet/shutdown) in the weirdest spots, especially live players.

turn check is really bad - what are we trying to induce from? Pretty much only "air" he can have is 64 and 67, everything is just a pair prolly, value in this hand is from hero-calls, not inducing spazzy bluffs on such a dry board, unlikely he's gonna have much of a hand EVER cos we have 3 of the 4 aces.
Very common thing this in live cash games, where people think "gonna trap check" but in order to trap your opponent needs to have either a lot of "air/draws" in his range which he'll bluff or semi-bluff with, or have a wider range for value when you check. This DEFO DEFO DEFO not one of those spots.
Just bet your hands people!

Yeah I normally barrel away and go for max value, but my feeling was that he'd think 'I was at it on the flop' and by checking the turn it appeared I was giving up...so he could try taking the pot away. Didn't quite work like that lol I think I was right in calling as not many hands beating me.
And what did he SHOW?

What lildave said.
A4 makes a lot of sense. However, it's very difficult for you to have a 4, so villain (especially if he's bad/fpsy) might raise the river with two pair or a set, thinking he's getting value from AK.
Without having good reason to believe the above, though, I generally fold, because they always have it live when they raise the river.

Call the river as played, but I'd definitely bet the turn.
If he shows
for a float on the flop or something equally bizarre, give the man his money.
Raise on the end is unlikely to be a bluff but you have no fours in your range, so why wouldn't he jam with lower sets? 99 and 22 play the hand the same way.
4/1 on the call, so get it in.

£22 minimum pre
That makes it easier to bet £30+ on flop and get another £50 in on turn
He may well have a 4 but we've made it very easy for him to get there with 64 etc and now we have to pay him if that's his holding but he has a lot more two pairs and undersets in his range here.
General standard of play in the £1/£1 game at the Vic is poor. Even I can make money there.
Limp, call, call, fold is common and they frequently overvalue TPTK and two pair hands.

if this was higher stakes or tougher regs, checking turn with your entire range to strengthen your c/c range and allow him to follow-up his floats would be good. As played and esp with your image betting extracts a tonne of value ott given people are more likely to call wider and bluff less.

I kind of like this if likely to want to balance cos of either this session liekly to be a long one or going to play with villans again.
Also can't see many reasons for going so small pre
