3% of a £2k tourney isn't really on par with 3% of a £100 tourney though. I understand what you're saying though but don't think it applies because even though the EPT tourneys last 3 times as long so needs 3times as many dealer hours per play they are still getting 20 times the salary from that 3% all other things being equal. Maybe I don't understand the card room tipping economy though.

As far as I can tell the 3% isn't like their salary. They get an hourly wage, then the 3% which is a forced tip. Tipping on top shouldn't be expected. Sticking a tip bit on the layout form is fine but putting players on the spot to tip when they have already had a forced tip of 3% is out of line in my opinion. The costs of mtts is huge with travelling and hotels and very few people have a good enough roi to justify tipping more to staff who have already been fairly rewarded.

This is inaccurate their wage is solely the money taken from the prizepool. It's not additional.

Your view is a selfish one. I'm advocating generosity.

Dealers should be paid out of the rake.

They are part of the cost of running a tournament.

If a winning player wants to reward decent dealers for their efforts, fine and good.

But it should not be mandatory.

I have no problem with anything as long as it is very clearly outlined for all to see before committing any money to a tournament buyin.

If they wanna take 8% out of the prizepool to get the TD's wife's boob-job then that is fine as long as it's stated in a way that is almost impossible for anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to miss.

We can argue the toss about the practical and technical aspects of running a poker tournament all night but as players I think all we need/should expect is transparency.

Are you sure that the 3% taken is their sole income? Some stars events such as ept Deauville and Dusk til dawn ukipt do not take a % from the prizepool and yet they still employ stars dealers who are presumably being paid for their efforts. I would not expect some events  to have an hourly or trip wage whilst others on the same tour  worked on the 3% model.

I do think that the paying of the staff should come out of the rake. I would always tip if a % had not already been taken but this should be in addition to the dealer's wages and not their wages, just as a % taken from the prizepool as a tip should be in addition to their wages and not their wages.
