it's a fucking damning inditement when Patrick Viera and Fabio Cannavaro, who struggle with English at the best of times, are making more sense of the opening than Chiles and Dixon.

Just switched on and I think the long term plan is to watch just the matches and avoid the build up.

Rather watch Celebrity Master Chef than listen to this lot.

Taping the opener.  From ITV.  I need to know two things before I press play later:

1)  Is Andy Townsend there?
2)  Did he bring his little table?

no Andy yet, but you can rest assured he's coming. Tables abound with Strachan, Hoddle and Wright though. so you'll enjoy that.

oh lord.

Dear Adrian.

You have a World Cup Winner who the British public have almost certainly never seen being a pundit before and who could be really interesting.

And you've opened with 'what was it like to win the world cup'

Just fuck off and die, will you?

And tell Lee Dixon that Fabio Cannavaro cannot be someone you looked up to as a young lad given you're substantially older than him.

I know it's daft, but that comment makes me a bit sad.

Ignore me. I'm old.

To be fair, the whole thread is tilting.  It is very much first world problems, it isn't even news, never mind the really bad variant.

Surely you can just start watching at kick off, get a cup of tea, or crack open the beers at half time

Of course we can, but are we not allowed to have opinions on this? Or do we just have to keep them to ourselves?

The World Cup is a rather big sporting event and we don't get one every year so wouldn't it be good if the people who are paid to present it to us actually had some aptitude for that task?

Ultimately you can avoid being tilted by, in effect, taking your own advice.

Chiles gets a bad rap IMO. He's no dryer than Gary Linekar, who no one seems to mind. He has always played the role of an armchair fan and I like that. It's something different. The problem is ITV have surrounded him with monotonous and dry pundits, which, whilst fine on their own, can't work as a group. Dixon and Keane, I just don't get.

Am not looking forward to coming back to that. Currently have Steve Macmanaman, Roberto Martinez, Gilberto Silva, Ruud van Nistelrooy and others. Far from the worst bunch.

I know I'm in the minority, but I don't mind Chiles.
Seems like a likable bloke who enjoys football enough to quit a perfectly decent job on Working Lunch, for which he's no doubt better qualified for, to be a sports anchor.

Maybe it's the accent that gets people back up, then they look for fault after that.
