Erm, Iron - £16m with an additional £4m as add-ons isn't usually regarded as north of £20m.

Anyway, as a Saints fan how highly do you rate him as a centre-back?

Discussing him with other Liverpool fans, and there's a split of opinion. I think he's exactly what Liverpool need to strengthen the defence in the centre. Seems good in the air, decent with the ball at his feet, stays on his feet well but isn't afraid to put in a tackle when necessary. From the little I've seen of him, he also looks like he could become the marshall of the defence in the way Carragher and Hyypia were.

How do Saints fans rate him?

I read it was 20 million with add ons but no mention of how much they were

He was easily one of the better cb in the epl last year annoyed we are losing him
Gonna be hard to replace

Fonte will be a lot easier to replace
Chambers was understudy to cylne anyway but long term much better

Can't remember a team selling as many key players although I think in all cases Southampton have got more than a fair price

Lovren is excellent. Very consistent, and a natural leader.

This has all got kind of ridiculous now with Chambers going as well. We can't turn down 16 million, its great money. We have got a good deal for everyone but we need players now.

It's no good getting great deals selling if you are just going to get fleeced buying. Everyone knows we need players so when we are in for people like Vlaar - we are going to have to pay top dollar. Looking forward to this window closing.

Extraordinary, really.

You build a team like that once in a lifetime. Whilst it was obvious they'd have to sell a few, as they are an "also-ran" Club, they seem to have systematically dismantled the whole thing.

Sadly, with so many departing, it must be worth looking at their odds for relegation, though we did that last season, & got our fingers badly burned.

I can see Virgil Van Dyke ending up at Southampton now.  Ths would be a big loss for Celtic, I thought he was likely to end up at Liverpool as thought he'd fit in well with their style of play.   It was rumoured early in Summer when Koeman came in that VVD was on his list of targets.

Yeah vvd and Forster going for about 20 million the pair, Celtic knew Forster was going before the signed Gordon , as much as I would love to see the pair in saints red  20million in celtics pocket is huge in a weak spl,

the following article in the daily xenophobe is highlighting my views earlier this summer
before the sales started we have or will have lost (including players released) a full team
so far we have had 2 players coming in we will need a new back 4 to come in
and we are also being linked with goalkeepers as koeman has lost the faith in boruc
so we need to get a back 5 to gel in less than 3 weeks and with still players being
linked away its going to be harder and harder to replace them in time for kick off
and likely going to have a bunch of teenagers in the line up against livelpool
one things for sure the 8.0 for saints to have most transfer before the end of the window is
looking better and better value

I wouldn't worry about celtic getting 20m iron, it won't be spent.
