First couple of times I opened it I was expecting to hear of some dreadful death(s) somewhere.

Not as misleading as the big massive boobies thread.

So much character in this photo. The hole in the glass from a protester throwing rocks at ITV (over Cannavaro's left shoulder) while Chiles has his cuppa.

I watched it yesterday and the commentator managed to make it sound like Patrick Viera was dead, when in fact he just wasn't in the studio.

That hole has been there for ages, I can't believe they didn't get it fixed or do something so it wasn't in shot for the whole of the WC.

After a few weeks, I must say I am enjoying the ITV studio/pundits far more than the BBC.  The BBC guys give the impression of just being there for the jolly at taxpayer expense, and put minimal effort into any reasearch of the game they are going to watch.  Shearer is grating me in particular.  The whole BBC output just feels very smug.

Conversely I've enjoyed O'Niell, Hoddle and Strachan.

I thin this is the first time I have ever preferred ITV for a sporting event.

Saw this the other day about the difference between ITV and BBC

http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/jun/23/world-cup-itv-bbc-tv-studios

To be honest, am still just enjoying the games though, great World Cup so far, though winning a few quid would be nice too.

I retract all previous criticism of all co-commentators on the solid basis that in comparison with Danny Murphy they are all outstanding.

like Danny Murphy

miles in front of lawrenson, savage etc

explains tactics well, understated enthusiasm too

lawrenson sounds like he would rather be anywhere else in the world than at the world cup!

Made so many mistakes about stuff he'd seen. When Gamboa went down he confidently told us it was an ankle injury and even the clear sight of him holding his knee didn't shake his conviction.
When Schneider hit the post he told us that Navas hadn't moved.
So many others it would be tedious to list them.

To be fair, Mowbray wasn't much better.

He lacks experience

all the bbc colour commentators do as they have no live football at home so they are all lacking in practice to hone their craft

murphy though is self-deprecating, amusing and what he lacks in gravitas he makes up for in likeability

in my opinion

none of the main bbc guys are a patch on gnev as colour comms, tyler on main comms etc etc

the best bbc guys are the ones who came from radio 5, steve wilson, brotherton etc. natural with words, and don't overcook it as say pearce does

Thought Murphy tonight was the worst commentator I've ever listened to. Got almost everything wrong and had no enthusiasm in his voice at all combined with v bad puns/jokes. Not sure how a player like that is getting into the media now.

Whats with Martin O'Neill, its like he is trying really hard to prove that he knows more than the other pundits.
