In the snooker, in three of the four quarter-finals in the Masters, there has been a century break in the first frame:

O'Sullivan 101
Robertson 128
Maguire 137

The highest break of the whole Perry/Allen match was 68.

Isn't that interesting?

I generally find it more interesting, I think.

There is no totally dominant player and the general standard is higher leading to more close matches and unpredictable results.

This but  the commentators kill the game for me.   I quite like listening to Hendry summarise but the majority of the rest are terrible.

Is it 'cos he is Scottish?.........

Less characters

I think the overall standard is poorer. No players seem to have broken away for a while

Maybe I've just out grown the sport- just seems very dull compared to other sports

Isn't that better?  I prefer it when things are closer and games are more of a flip.

@Tikay nothing to do with him being Scottish.  I despised him as a player, and that was mostly down to the fact he supported Hearts.

He was a great champion, but I think he talks the game very well and provides a good understanding to the casual observer.  You can hear when he's thinking 3/4/5 shots ahead unlike Virgo who is wondering were the white is going.  Or Thorne who's too busy finding out what's going on over the all weather.

How can anyone not appreciate the special talent of Ronnie, or not be impressed by the display Robertson put on in the quarters.

The prospect of those two going toe to toe tomorrow afternoon is pretty wonderful.

The standard is so much higher and deeper these days. Only a few of the original 'stars' would live with this lot. Hendry, Davis, maybe White, not many others.

Funnily enough I heard today that Hendry is considering making a comeback possibly for this year's world championship, his reasons being that apart from Ronnie he doesn't think that the standard is particularly high.

I grew up in a pretty decent Era of snooker. Hendry was the dominant force but we had Higgins and Williams who were both superb and were both definitely the best in the world at a certain times. And of course we had a certain mr O'sullivan, who for me, is the most talented sportsman iv ever seen. Absolute magician.

I watch the snooker now whenever it is on, and I watch it because of Ronnie. As soon as he retires, I won't be watching snooker.

Agree- Ronnie is the only draw for me and obv soft spot for Selby because he's from Leicester. Other than that it's absolute snoozeville

Robertson and Ding and several others are as good as those two.  Ronnie is twice as good as hendo.  The standard isn't any worse.  I think the standard now is better.  But the bbc do such a bad job of hyping it.
