Ivan Luca Victorious in UKIPT Nottingham High Roller Nottingham, UK

Nottingham, UK - 15 April, 2015

A heads up battle between two live tournament heavyweights, Ivan Luca and Matas Cimbolas, brought the £3,200 UKIPT Nottingham high roller to a thrilling conclusion tonight. Eventual champion Luca outlasted a field of 51 to claim the title and £46,800 in the early hours of Thursday morning. Luca has had what you might call a pretty good start to his year, winning €397,000 for finishing runner-up in the €10,000 High Roller at EPT Malta, bringing his total live earnings to over $850,000.

Cimbolas, too, has an astonishing track record here at Dusk Till Dawn, having won the WPT £3,000 event back in November for £200,000 and followed it up with a High Roller win at the UKPC in February (for £60,000) and a 4th place finish in the UKPC Main Event (£55,000). It was only last month that he banked another five-figure score, €40,265 in the WSOP Circuit Event in Marrakech, and will be adding the £33,750 runner-up prize here to his list of cashes.

Day 2 brought back 21 players, led by Felix Stephensen, whose 145,000 chips took him all the way to the final, where he busted in 6th (£9,660). A third of today’s returning players were guaranteed a portion of the £148,410 prize money on offer, but that meant the fight to the final table grew in intensity as the levels wore on.

Among those falling shy of the money today were Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree, UKIPT5 London champion Rapinder Cheema, Chris Brammer, Ian Simpson and last year’s EPT Grand Final runner up Jack Salter. Ludovic Geilich was the bubble, finishing 8th and promptly jumping into Day 1b of the £1,000 + £100 Main Event (for which 7th place Bryn Kenney just missed out on the late-registration period, to his chagrin).

While Day 1b of the Main Event came to its conclusion, the High Roller played on, with a rail of spectators appreciative of the level of play on display. After UKIPT Season 3 Leaderboard winner Tom Hall hit the rail in 4th, it was Brazilian Thiago Nishijima who held the shortest stack (15 bb). He moved all in over a preflop raise from Luca with A c-2s, and was called by Luca, whose K s-Qh spiked a pair on the river to bring them to the one-on-one stage of the tournament.

It took three hours of back and forth play before Luca’s stack drew definitively away, and a just out-pipped A-8 (all in preflop vs. A-9) saw Cimbolas fall in second.

Full High Roller payouts:
1. Ivan Luca - £46,800
2. Matas Cimbolas - £33,750
3. Thiago Nishijima - £21,500
4. Tom Hall - £16,300
5. Mitch Johnson - £12,600
6. Felix Stephensen - £9,660
7. Bryn Kenney - £7,800

Politics Student Max Ladbrooke Takes Overall Chip Lead in UKIPT Nottingham Main Event

Nottingham, UK - 15 April, 2015

Max Ladbrooke, 21, has turned a last-minute £200 live satellite win into the overall chip lead in the UK & Ireland Poker Tour’s Nottingham Main Event. The £1,000 + £100 Main Event (which guarantees a cool £1,000,000) is a tournament Ladbrooke describes as “ten times bigger” than any event he’s played before, but his rise to chip dominance today belies his self-description of “a fish on a heater.”

The Main Event continued today with its second start day after a pause following Sunday’s working week-friendly Day 1a, and looks set for two more busy flights before the combined survivors play to the money on Saturday’s Day 2.

Day 1b brought 115 fresh players to the felt, including end-stage bust-outs from the High Roller such as Max Silver, Craig McCorkell, Ludovic Geilich and Jack Salter plus Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody and over a dozen PokerStars online qualifiers. Of these, 13 took the re-entry option when their first stack of chips didn’t do the job, bringing the total number of entries to 128.

Just 48 were still at the felt at the final whistle, with Ladbrooke the chip leader. His stack of 190,900 tops Day 1a’s leader Sunil Pancholi’s 170,800 and puts the 3rd year politics student at Keele University in pole position – for now. Also sailing through Day 1b with healthy stacks were Simon Higgins (151,800), Iaron Lightbourne (144,000) and Leo McClean (119,200).

Live coverage of the Main Event at Dusk Till Dawn continues on the PokerStars Blog tomorrow at noon when Day 1c begins. Visit the PokerStars UK & Ireland Facebook page for galleries and more, and interact using #UKIPTNottingham.

Live satellite qualification for Friday’s Main Event Day 1d is still possible tomorrow, with a £110 satellite at 7pm (20 seats guaranteed) plus another £110 Turbo satellite at 10pm (5 seats guaranteed with ten or more runners).

Side events begin on Friday with the £100,000 guaranteed £300 + £30 Nottingham cup kicking off at 7pm
