“If we barrel headlong towards a hard Brexit....I believe the British motor industry will find it very difficult to survive in the long term."

in a sensible parallel universe

"Boris, you told business to fuck off"

"let me explain prime minister"

"Boris, you're sacked"

instead

"F*** business" EU diplomats shocked by Boris Johnson's 'four-letter reply' to business's Brexit fears at Foreign Office reception for Queen's birthday.

a very disturbing thread unroll

1. I’m afraid to say that the Brexit situation for the UK is not looking good at all. Unless there’s a very quick change.....

"Lots of calls on back of Airbus/BMW intervention for rethinking of Prime Minister's Brexit red lines. But one red line more than any other is shaping Brexit - the desire to end Free Movement. That inevitably means Single Market membership is off table."

Why do you think Airbus and other pan European manufacturers invest here today. The single market is just one factor. More important to them is the flexibility, relatively low cost and easy sackability of the British workforce. Irrespective of Brexit, if they had to cut costs and reduce their manufacturing footprint do you think they would

a) Close a plant in the UK, despite all its obvious benefits from a business stand point
b) Close a plant in France or Germany with the massive costs and protections involved, if you could even do it

I know the answer and so the threat of closure is ever present with these pan European and global manufacturers. Big business threats and the outflow of benefits from UK workers to protected European manufacturers workers are exactly why we should all try to sow our balls back on, grab them and keep grabbing them until Brexit is done and dusted

If you read Airbus risk assessment they are literally preparing for a No Deal Brexit, which is exactly what many Brexiter MPs complaining about Airbus heavily lobbied the Government to do and to tell everyone else to do, and is the natural result of current state of negotiations:

Great material for Blackadder does Brexit:

- cunning plan to scare Brussels -threaten No Deal

- dont plan much ourselves (at least in public) while EU publish 70 prep studies

- if anyone in business decides to plan for it, criticise “threats”/ tell them to get behind Britain

Airbus are naturally doing what they should do. It's their duty to plan and protect shareholders etc - tbf, I don't really have any beef with that, much as I'd like to be King ***** sometimes (think I spelt that right).

I'd prefer they just did this quietly, as they should, inform their workforce and leave it there. It's not much different to the Russians interfering in global politics when a Franco/German business deliberately interferes in our political processes. Pretty sad that so many British people want to applaud this approach and talk up the threats

Aren’t they basically saying the only meaningful way they can protect their shareholders is to try and stop Brexit? Their analysis and projections, like everyone else’s, say it is and will continue to be a disaster. Seems like they’re just fulfilling their legal obligation to their shareholders.

I don’t think I understand. A company opposing economic damage is “rubbish”?

It's irrelevant. They can do what they think is best for their company irrespective of Brexit or not. You weren't one of the remainers chanting anti Corbyn songs yesterday were you.
