I get the impression Eddie always treats it purely business and a job to do and i don't remember seeing his wife and kids at many events if ever.   Never mind bringing half of Stoke's strength asylum with him to pat him on the back.    I think it is totally different now for him as he is all about the hype/social media to drive his income/brand now.

I think when Kaz welcomed him to 'the club' that humbled him massively and it really hit home that he was done and his 12 years of work was over.   No more 12,000 cal days and sleeping with a mask on to not risk dying.  He had already decided to quit beforehand if he won (on medical advice because he isn't built to do what he does naturally like Thor and Shaw) and he already had his number plate bought 'WSM 2017' so whatever his personalised plate was so convinced he was it was his title and how single minded he was that year to do the business.

True but it shows just s snapshot of his reactions, less than 10 seconds. I have no idea what he was like in the meetings after, if they have press conferences etc. That whole video seemed like Eddie commissioned it (no idea if thats true obviously)

I think Eddies achievements are absolutely remarkable.

That video has been taken down and with good reason by the look of it:

Makes the whole video look suspect and I take back what I said about losing respect for Thor because of the handshake thing.....

Ha i replied to the above before seeing this. This is what I mean about it all being Eddie focused. I am not sure if it is Eddie focused, or just hype focused for the fight.

Seems mad to rip into Thor too much for arguing against a ref at the highest level of his sport. When kids tell the refs to fuck off on a sunday because he chose the wrong throw in. WSM often goes down to 1-3 points, if I am Thor and its cost me 1pt I am 100% doing the same regardless if I know I have done some dodgy reps (which I assume if we ask him when he retires he would gladly admit the whole set was questionable).

What comes out of it for me above all is the total class of Brian Shaw who hasn't been shown to have kicked off in the slightest and just took it on the chin when he could have finished 2nd.   I like shaw a lot and the way he seems to operate.  I am Eddie's biggest fan but i love strongman full stop and always have since the Capes/Jon Paul 80s era.   If i went on mastermind i seriously think 'WSM 1985-2020' could be a specialist subject for me.  I'd like to think i can see these issues through neutral glasses most of the time.

I like the way Brian is on his YouTube, he seems really genuine and clearly has a huge love for strongman. Hopefully he takes a backroom role when his career is over, I think he will be able to really grow it. He also strikes me as the type that couldn't care less about second, ha. If he doesn't win he's failed. Even in some of the eating challenges with Eddie he looks annoyed when he loses.

JPS was something else, 20 years before his time too. Ive not seen a huge amount of him, only the things in the flashbacks/documentaries. But it feels if he was around now he would be leaps and bounds ahead of everyone, both athletically and commercially.

I wonder if there will be more strict rulings in the future after all this, where appeals have to be more formal as opposed to surrounding the refs. MVM seems like to type to not care, the same with Darren Sadler, I am really surprised CB seemed so passive, but I guess he didnt change his mind.

I was walking today and was thinking just how far Adam Bishop maybe ahead of the field in the next Brits as he trains from home most of the time. He did an unofficial dollar DL record the other week.

JPS would be awesome in the modern era.   I would love to see the modern boys do the wacky events the 80s boys were made to do like bending steel bars on the head!   It would be amazing to watch the totally non health and safety WSM events from the 1980s with today's beasts competing.

The arrogance of Geoff after the first bar bend in this event is just so lol.   Icredible how bad Kaz was at bar bending given he was brutal at virtually every other event.  Pretty sure one year they had to rip yellow pages phone books up as well at speed in an event.

Then watch Kaz destroy the log lift!

Pulling trucks on ice!  I mean you can't make it up!  Arm Wrestling!   I would just love to watch the 2020 class rewind to this era and the 2021 WSM is done under these events and these conditions!

One thing that I find astounding, and I guess this can go across all sports is just how far some have come. The WR/max reps/times/distances etc in strongman seem to have almost doubled. I assume its a mix of everything. I will never forget the 500 by Eddie (I must have said it on this thread) and being like, its impossible for him to go from 465 to 500 in a year. Its 8% who can jump 8% in a year...

Its taken nearly 5 to get 1kg.

I remember a yellow pages/book type event. The bar bending when they get it over their head is always a spectacle.

I watched a breakdown of a few fitness guys saying how much they earn from views. Fitness seems to be one of the lowest compared to other sectors.

This is from memory so unsure if its exact, but I thought one guy posted a diet/food type video and for 20m had around $40k.

Back in the Rich Piana days he was posted a video a day getting 1m+. He was 5 or so years ago now so he may have made a fortune.

I think the average CPM is ~$2 per 1k views.

Some get much higher, and some get strangled.

Looks like Thor has come back about this. Not watched the whole video yet and it contains other things but worth a watch even if just for the Julius Maddox bench update

Looks like he has definitely sacked strongman off then.

Has just posted on Insta that he's down 18kg already from a 206kg starting weight.
