Is there a point anymore?

People are in and out after Car Keys, Cash and High value good's. Most break-ins I hear about last about 5 minute's i tend to ignore house alarm's going off on my street anyway. Whats the point.

We have had an alarm for about 2 weeks of my life, were we started using it for downstairs when we were asleep. Then we set it off about 6 times within that two weeks so we binned it.

Never had one, but my parents recently moved into a house where one is fitted.

When arranging house insurance they were told if they declared at point of policy sign up that they had one, and were burgled and they had not switched it on then the claim would be invalidated - even in they were in the house, or the burglary was in an outbuilding.  Having the alarm offered them no discount on premium.

They didn't declare it and have never switched it on.

That along with the fact that people ignore them when they are going off would put me off ever getting one.
