You know those elections where people complain there is no difference between the candidates? Well, it’s not like that in Georgia. In the race for Governor, the moderates did poorly in both parties’ Primaries, so the Republican candidate is a right-wing Trump supporter who wants to round up the criminal illegals and the Democrat is a progressive black woman. The candidate of one of the major parties is black. In Georgia. If she wins, she would bee the first black female Governor anywhere in the country. It’s a big ask - of the 82 Governors Georgia has had so far, 82 of them have been white men and no Democrat has been elected as Governor or Senator this century. But Georgia has changed - minority populations have increased substantially and Atlanta is now a liberal stronghold. Polls are neck-and-neck, though the Republican is still favourite.

This race is one of the clearest examples of the choices facing the country. Most elections previously have seen the candidates move towards the centre, but these two are appealing to their bases and leaving the middle largely unclaimed. Stacey Abrams says that candidates shouldn’t pretend to be something they’re not and she is focusing on Democrat turnout rather than trying to flip Trump supporters. It may be honest but is it wise?

You think the surprise winner of the GOP Primary is extreme? This is one of the candidates he beat.

Michael Williams and his Deportation Bus got very few endorsements, but they did get a couple of noteworthy ones - from Roger Stone and Dog the Bounty Hunter.

Rod Rosenstein Suggested Secretly Recording Trump and Discussed 25th Amendment

"WASHINGTON — The deputy attorney general, Rod J. Rosenstein, suggested last year that he secretly record President Trump in the White House to expose the chaos consuming the administration, and he discussed recruiting cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Mr. Trump from office for being unfit."

Who knew that it would take trump and the republicans to prove Keynes right, a massive debt financed tax cut would juice up the economy.

Unprecedented scenes at the Senate hearing on Trump’s Supreme Court nomination.

Kavanaugh’s aggressive and emotional approach might make you wonder whether he is temperamentally suited for the role, but it’s all going to come down to whether three Republican swing votes, namely Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski and Jeff Flake, break ranks.

Watched the entirety of the hearing without knowing too much background on the case

Who is Lindsey Graham and what did you make of his contribution? It was fire and brimstone stuff from him.

Another great article from Marina Hyde: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/sep/28/brett-kavanaugh-testimony-nominee-supreme-court

It was compelling viewing, but the respective sides are so entrenched in their opinions that I doubt that a single person with a stake in proceedings has changed their view as a result of this testimony.

On that evidence, Kavanaugh is as suited to a role on the Supreme Court as Trump is to the White House.  Scary to think he could potentially be influencing US lawmaking for the next 40 years or so.
