Interesting spot I think, from a mates live cash game.

Playing 1/3 @ the vic
8 handed 10pm ish

We have £500 to start

Single straddle to £6.

'Businessman' (BM) opens HJ to 22, Hero calls BTN with  , straddle calls.

BM playing 700
Straddle playing 1k

Flop

Straddle checks, BM checks, Hero checks

Turn

Straddle checks, BM bets 25, Hero raises to 70, straddle folds, BM calls.

River

BM bets 85, Hero shoves 405.

Thoughts???

Extra information
We are not going to bluff on brick rivers (because villain won't fold 9x+)
We are not going to value bet a 10, we may bet 1/4 pot on some J's

Hero is a young gentleman, short hair, often quiet demeanour, not seen as overly splashy or aggro.

Turn seems reasonable as BM doesn't seem very strong considering flop action and now betting the 9. Looks like 2 over cards with a flush draw. BM can bet 2 over cards with a club flush blocker as well. River action is £85 into £210? Doesn't look too bluffy. Potentially a blocker bet with a straight but not many in BMs range A10 or K10 maybe but we also block with our 10. A small flush seems unlikely due to action on the flop as most connectors hit a pair or semi bluff. Straight flush unlikely as would bet flop. Feels like flushed broadway hands AcKc KcQc AcQc.

I would just flat river. Also I doubt BM calls a shove with anything worse than us.

If we don't fancy our chances of getting a bluff through otr maybe we should take the price we're getting and call. I don't think raising to £70 is ever going to scare him Mr Businessman, probably need to make it bigger if we want to take it down there and then.

this is essentially the crux of the discussion.

raising turn vs an opponent we know we can't get a bluff through seems like a counterintuitive (spelling) play!?

I tried to do a combinations calculation and it seemed to me that we have way too many bluffs to value vs an opponent who has a weak made hand (9x) a lot and sometimes flop trapped monsters and often better club draws than our own.

Huh?

Not sure how often we expect this to get through, going to be pretty villain dependant in a live game, but if you're gonna describe him as "business man" I don't expect this will get through very much at all as a bluff, so I'm happy to just take the equity and try to improve. Also not sure why we'd only bet 1/4 pot on a J if we've decided to never bet a brick because villain won't fold a pair, and similarly based on this read I'm not sure why we're raising turn, just seems like slightly confused logic to me.

Also I would 100% bet flop, and jam river vs this sizing.

DISCLAIMER - I'm not a pro and I have the HHs to prove it.

Also I wouldn't worry one jot about how many combos of value vs bluffs we have in any spot like this in a live cash game, I mean what is the point :p

have I misread this hand?

once we get past lets bet the flop land and are told we must play the river, what even is the question?
