I can't be doing with Maguire because he won't admit to liking or caring about anything.
I'm always relieved when Maguire remembers to bring his chalk. Allen is old-school re.chalk - just sticks it right down in his trouser-pocket - he must go through loads of pockets. I wore ripped jeans long before they were fashionable due to the chalk. Eventually I bought a magnetic chalk holder and never looked back. Click to see full-size image. |

If you play 8-10 hour days, 6-7 days a week and chalk your cue every shot, the chalk will wear your pants out. I'm sure Mark or Ralph will testify.

Funnily enough when Tom and I had a game a couple of years ago after not picking up our respective cues for the best part of twenty years, we both produced indentical magnetic chalk holders from our cue-cases. This was odd because it was the first time we had ever played each other.

Similarly, loading bags of cement on to a lorry will wear your jeans out in a couple of days.

The magnet in mine is so strong that the only way I could remove the chalk was by sliding it off.

Haha. That's how you're supposed to do it. I have a magnet at home that's about the size of a small bottle cap. and if I stick it to a flat metal surface I will bet anyone £100 that they can't remove it by hand unless they slide it off the edge.

Yeah, all the jeans I had before I joined the Navy were worn on the left pocket. I had a leather one of those magnetic chalk things, but only used it half the time. 'Have to slide it off'

There are definitely more world class left handed snooker players than the population average would suggest. There has to be something in it.

It is very tough to play top-class snooker in these muggy conditions - more kicks too I would imagine.

Les Dodd used to come down and play 'points' three handed with us and when the weather was hot and sticky he would pour some motor oil on to a cloth and rub it into his cue until it shone like glass. He swore by it but I was always to afraid to try it.

Before changing jobs I was playing probably 6/7 days a week for a couple hours a day apart from sun & mon where it was a lot more. These days (pre lockdown) it's mainly just Monday nights (league night) & whenever I can get a knockabout in down the pub. Tbh most lf my jeans/trousers have holes in their pockets, so from what you guys are saying it makes sense 😂 Still not a fan of those thingys though!
