Anyone see this on the BBC a few weeks ago about Paul Merson and gambling addiction. I wondered what people thought of it?

Also on youtube for anyone not in the UK

I had to give it the button after the first ten minutes or so.

Was very sad at times, showing the worst of addiction that takes over peoples lives. 7 milly down the pan. Now has pocket money given to him by his wife, and living in rented accommodation with a young family. I thought it showed some of  the betting companies in a terrible light. Would recommend watching it.

And he probably still easily earns £300k a year now with sky and other after dinner gigs maybe £500k.   Even if he has blown the lot he can still start again and just do what normal people do.   His house would be paid off in 10 years.   Hard to feel too sorry for him.

Feel more sorry for his mrs and family having to deal with a degenerate alcoholic cokehead, lol.

Like you say, probably earning a bundle again now, and if they've reined him in, won't have to worry about anything for retirement etc.

People never talk about the fact he has EIGHT kids with 3 different women i think.   That is a lifestyle choice which has cost him fortunes alongside all his other issues.   No one has 8 kids nowadays.   He is the classic example of its always someone else's fault.  The thing about him that stood out for me was how sensible he appeared in the itv Harry show when he was going mental at Razor for his huge drink problem a couple of years ago.   Seaman was just looking at both of them wondering how he just retired gracefully and lives a normal life for a 50 year old.

His third missus knew what she was signing up for (if she didn't then she needs to find google) and probably still has a better life financially withh merson than she would renting a house with kids with 99% of other men she could have married.  Merson will make money for years yet because the british public in a sick way love his appeal.   Given Jeff has left soccer Saturday he must be worried he might be out on his ear or it could work the other way and they keep him on for years to appeal to the original audience.

Think Seaman bought a gaff in Tim Blake's old village, and used to just spend most of his time fishing down the bottom of the garden.

Bet he was glad to be out of it, given how mental all this mob obviosuly were.

Watching this doc and amazing how juvenile he sounds when he's on the gambling software at the start.

I feel sorry for him. He comes over as a nice but vulnerable and fragile bloke. He may earn £500k a year but that’s no good if he’s blowing £600k. As for paying off a house in 10 years, I think he’d struggle to get a mortgage. He’d need to put 25% down and like he said himself, he was saving up for a deposit but instead of giving the deposit to Halifax he gave it to William Hill!
You don’t break down in tears on TV so often as he does unless you have real demons. Also, 3 wife and 8 kids, yes that’s probably because the first two couldn’t  put up with his degenerate behaviour. The third may go the same way.
I hope he does sort himself out.
