Explain to me please what happened here?

My understanding up till now was that if you are low stacked and have a good hand ie AA and go allin on the flop, then chances are you will at least take the side pot.

Obviously I am getting this wrong. Can somebody please explain to me why cudaman took the side pot when Jesus god had AA???

Jesus God had the least chips but won the main pot. (with the best hand)
The side pot was between you, laudan and cudaman73 only (as jesus god had less chips and therefore couldn't contest the full amount of chips available).

Hi Suzanne,

There was only one main pot until the turn when Laudan bet 300.  Due to his low chips Jesus God could only partially call this bet with his remaining 30 which meant Laudan’s bet went to form a side pot of 270.   As Jesus God hasn’t anymore chips he cannot contest the side pot

So when cudaman calls for 300 this is really two calls  – 30 call into the main pot and 270 into the newly formed sidepot .  You, as Miss Hoolie, have the same chance to call both pots but correctly fold as your pair is pretty worthless with 2 higher ones on board!

So Main Pot consists of everything bet up to the turn plus the three bets of 30 and is being contested by the three players.  The Side pot consists of the two remaining players bets of 270 each (which Jesus was unable to match) making total 540.  Any further bets on the river also will be added to the side pot because it’s only involving the two remaining players.

Incidentally if either Laudan or cudaman fold to a bet by the other on the river they will not only lose the side pot but also concede their main pot involvement too.

As IFM says Cudaman took the side pot because it only involved him and Laudan.  Jesus God due to his low chips couldn’t match the bets on the turn and so was only involved in the main pot.

So the answer ( rather long-windedly! ) to your question is Jesus God didn’t win the side pot because he wasn’t involved in it

Ahhhhh I see....thanks ifm and Keithy for your explainations. For some reason I thought the side pot was the chips in play up till Jesus God was allin.
