I am trying to gain an insight into the type of tournaments that you guys and gals would like to see included in a regular weekly schedule at Dusk Till Dawn.

Your votes and comments would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

I like shootouts so I chose that one and also the double chance freezeouts cos they're pretty good!

To be honest i would play in all apart from the shootout as i prefer MTT's to STT's. If i have £400 in my pocket set aside for poker then all of the first options are the same - i'm getting roughly 10000 chips for £200.

I prefer the rebuys than the freezeouts as i may well be able to get away with spending the £200 then. A £40 rebuy tournament may well mean only having to spend £40 and still finishing up with 10000 chips by the end of the rebuy peroid. I understand people's views that they tend to suit players with deep pockets who can afford to spend lots to try and build up a big stack but i welcome that, if they can build up the prizepool without it costing me that much then the more the merrier!!

People's mindsets change when playing a freezeout rather than a rebuy as they know they cant afford to make any mistakes but i think that a good player can adjust to the game whatever it is being played.

I love freeze out as oppossed to re-buy's. It puts pressure on those student poker players that swear that they've paid their way through college. They know all the odds an percentages, read slansky and brunson, and make a reasonable living on the internet by being a rock in the cash games.
Re-buying and re-loading are part of rudimentry poker for these players but put them under the pressure of a descission from which theirs no return and it perturbs their game.
Most poker players now are not primarily gamblers but, machine like students of a mathmatical era of new age poker.
To be a good and proffitable player you undoubtably have to have an intricate knowlege of odds and percentages but i believe it is of paramount importance if this is amalgamated with an inherent understanding of the gambling industry as a whole.

What i'm saying is if you've never looked in your pocket and found only your bus fair home, before the last at catford on a wednesday night, and decided to go for a reverse forcact the two rags, then there's a whole side to poker that you'll just never understand!

my experience is the opposite to yours. The old guard at Notts Gala are rebuy merchants. they like an hour and a half of all in poker before the game proper starts. conversly the new younger players coming in to the casino are solid players, some of whom move up and down the gears in perfect time with the tourney. sure some are loose/passive fish but that's in contrast to the loose aggressive fish that preceeded them.
saying "student' poker players like they're all of one type is the same as saying "internet" "Women" or "brown eyed" for that matter. If you/re generalising too much I would imagine it's costing you pots, which probably why it sound like you're a bit anti student players

Your post doesn't add up bolt.

To suggest that the "gambling" mentality lends itself to freezeouts rather than re-buys?

Surely the conservative type player which you speak of would prefer a freezeout as he knows exactly how much a night of poker will cost him. I'd have thought the true gambling spirits about which you talk would be more akin to making desicions along the lines of, whether to spend their cab fare home on an add-on or not.

All the "gamblers" that I've met are true advocates of the re-buy genre.

Learn the odds whatever you play folks. You don't need to have gone bust 12 times to be a good player in this day and age (once will do  Cheesy )

Since you have limited me to two choices, then my budgetted 400 quid slips nicely between the two big 200 quid freezeouts.

Usually I would play more than two a week and thus it would be one per night, whatever game was on, only playing the big one if I could afford it that week.

I voted the freeze out and double chance, but maybe one night a week a game _other_ than NLHE?

I would go for the £200 FO and the £200 DC, I try to avoid rebuys full stop if I can.

Now I just need to find the £400.... maybe it's down the back of the sofa! lol

I would go for the £200 NL double chance freezeout and the £60 NL max two rebuys.

Reason being I would like the chance to play in two different 'types' of games. I believe only sticking to freezeouts or rebuy tourneys is not good for your game. The only way to learn and improve is to test yourself and build experience. As stated in this thread, you will get very different players in either of these tourneys, and you will need to adjust your game accordingly.

That's my thought.... Agree or disagree...?

Perhaps I need to make it clear what i hope to gain from this poll.
The Choices are deliberately very similar in terms of potential spend and chip allocation per player. As such the prizepool will be about the same for each one.

They are all No Limit Hold-Em because other variations would confuse the issue.
This is not a Pot Limit or No Limit poll (I am sure that one of those will crop up at some time along with many more polls along a similar theme to this one)

What I am trying to establish is the relative popularity or desire for certain types of tournaments ie: Freeze-Outs/Limited Re-Buys/Unlimited Re-Buys.
This will enable us to create a schedule which reflects the kind of competitions the players want to play.

The best schedule will include the best balance of competitions that you, the player would actually want to play.

I do not assume for one minute that everyone has £400 available for poker each and every week. It is necessary to create a 'what if' scenario to allow the poll to yield the best answer to the question.

Since you have limited me to two choices, then my budgetted 400 quid slips nicely between the two big 200 quid freezeouts.

Usually I would play more than two a week and thus it would be one per night, whatever game was on, only playing the big one if I could afford it that week.

Mikky, because there were only two choices, what would have been your 3rd choice?

in fact anyone can feel free to answer that question... Please post your 3rd choice tournament.

Don't forget that I am not doing these polls to satisfy some crazy whim... I am aiming to find out the answer to the ultimate question of poker, the schedule and the entry fee

Thanks for the great responses so far
