Hi all,

Ok am pretty new to the world of texas but i have been a betting man all my life mostly on the horses , but ive allways enjoyed playing cards. While over here ( Am from Australia by the way) visiting family i started to play poker online , first for play but more recently for money . My first question is ..If your trying to make some decent money which is the best game type to play? I have found myself that i can quite often win or get into the money playing sit and go comps of 10/20/30 people at a £10 buy in but its hard to get ahead as the pay offs arent hughe on the other hand i go into these tournments where there is normally around 400 to 550 players involed ( i play at the pokerroom.com by the way ) And find it hard to get into the money allthough i have got a 9th place out of 550 before and can regually make it to the pay off stage but seem to be having troulbe going all the way . My question is basicly for people whom have been making an income of this am am undiced weather to stick with sit and go or keep trying the latger one ideally a tournment with about 150 to 200 would be right up my ally but there hard to find at the pokerroom? My second question for you is the Australian scence ?? As i have become very interested in this wonderfull game since arriving here in the UK am keen to pursue it when i return to Oz in a few weeks time but am not so sure if it is as popular over there , does anyone here know much about the poker secne in Oz as i have never played live and i would love to do so , as i think am a better player live than on the net. Dose Austarlia have an EPT or something simmilar...am based in Brisbane any feed back on theses matters would be greatly appreciated..

Hi and welcome to Blonde

I dont actually playonline to make money and sure there will be people here to give you tips. Looks like your doing good already with getting into the money in the sit in goes and maybe stick to them for now and the single table tournments (sst). A mutli table tournment an be harder to get into the money especially if you have over 500 people blinds goig up quickly and people calling with any 2 cards.

Mtts can be fun and I perfer them but you can play more stt a day and if your at a level you can cope with can earn more money.

Also a site someone posted on another thread:  http://www.homepokergames.com/australia.php gvies you games in your area. I dont know about card rooms in oz but sure there be some near you.

Welcome to blonde, Blackhand.

No-one is going to be able to answer your question exactly, game choice is a matter of personal preferance and working out which forms of the game suit your style. These are things that you have to work out for yourself.

If you've only been playing 6 months and are making money already at low stake STTs and MTTs then I suggest you carry on with those. There are plenty of resources to help you improve your game, there are many books available (some reviewed on Blondepoker.com) and discussion forums like the Hand Analysis board on can give you an insight as to how other players approach the game.

Best of luck

Hi dude, welcome.

Some of the guys on here are top notch and make the big bucks on multi table tourneys. If you're fairly new to the game or have limited funds for online poker play I would recommend low stakes single table tourneys, if you're dead against playing cash games. STTs on most sites basically require a very formulaic mode of play which over a large number can be translated into a competitive return on investment (ROI). Cash game wise, if you're down with the numbers required to play your game, give low limit a bash and try and grind out some $$$ initially.

G'day fellow Aussie.

I can answer your question about poker when you get back to Aus (particularly in Brisvegas)....The Treasury Casino has a pretty damn good card room from what I have been told.

Good luck with it all and welcome to Blonde.  We need a few more antipodes here to show them all how it's done  Wink

IMO, it's tough to make regular money from the big tournaments.  Depending how many you play, you could go a year without a sniff of the money places.

Regular money from the sit & gos is very possible.  Day to day, I make more from the cash games than anything else.  Of course the losses, when they come, are much bigger for the cash player.

The simple answer, if you are profitable but want more ("decent") money, is to play more often or to multi-table.
