Does anyone here know if I can use the same copy of Norton Internet Security Suite on two different PCs?

Or am I legally required to buy a separate copy for each of my two computers?

Thanks,

Zim

If there for your own personal use yes you should be able to put on two computers in your home. If its at work etc i dont think so.

not sure of the legit answer but I do use it on both. There was an issue with the registration so I rang them and told them that I am using my laptop instead of PC and they gave me all the details so, I guess it is ok...

technically, you aren't allowed, you only buy one licence per bit of software at a time and that allows you to run it on one pc normally - extra licences are available but no one bothers

However, like M3Boy says, why on earth would you want too Cheesy

There are a few bits of free software out there that are pretty good.  I use AVG for antivirus http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1  and I use Sygate for a firewall but they have stopped the free one.  Zone Alarms is a good on though tinyurl.com/94j59 and is free still - remember to turn off the windows firewall if you are using it as you don't need two.

I can't remember the name of the other free antivirus but I know someone here does use it so I expect they will post it.

Norton write good software but being the main player in a market makes you vunerable to attacks (like M$ for example)  If a virus writer can break Norton then he will see that as a good thing and so the benchmark is set.  The others aren't as vunerable but then you don't get as good a service if you don't pay for it I guess.  For a paid antivirus, I can recommend Panda http://www.pandasoftware.co.uk/ but I still use the free AVG at home (use Panda at work for now but will switch when the subscription is up)

I use avast!, which I found through experience  is much better than Nortons, Macfee and AVG.

You can download avast from the link below

http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?tag=srch&tg=dl-20&qt=avast&search.x=34&search.y=16&search=+Go%21

once you have downloaded the software you will need to input this code.

The above code is a 2 years subsription to avast! Professional, no need for you to pay any money.

Also, you should use spysweeper for your spyware remover.

lick the hyperlink below to begin the download process.
http://sales.webroot.com/downloads/registered/links/sspsetup1_115795.exe

Your key code (required for product activation):

This is a 2 year subscription, so there is no need to pay for anything.

Will i need to remove Norton from my system before i download the avast?

I find Norton very, very slow (at both scanning and at boot up), i'm not 100% confident in it's ability to detect everything (but it does an OK job) and i've known to create problems by itself for no apparent reason.

If you were to replace i'd leave it on your system until you are ready to install the new product (ie you have downloaded it etc), but do remove it before you actually install.

I use and can highly recommend Nod32, however this is not free.

Thanks tremendously for your help, I will definitely look into some of these free antivirus solutions.

I only got Norton coz it's name brand... like buying a Hoover Vacuum... I was aware that a lot of people think it's crap, but I didn't know what else to get, and I figured I'd better have something rather than nothing... (arfa loaf better than no bread, as it goes)  Roll Eyes

I use Zone Alarm Security Suite which includes firewall, anti virus and spyware protection. This version including everything is not free (*cough* torrents *cough*) but you can download a free version which is just the firewall. I used to use Norton Internet Security and find Zone Alarm a lot quicker and it uses far less memory. Can't recommend it highly enough!

Zone Alarm Pro for a firewall - cant beat it (specially when behind a router firewall aswell)

Also BEST AV program is Kaspersky
