Ace high boards
«

you have
and have raised preflop and been called. flop comes
.
in the subsequent betting do you find it hard to distinguish between a
with a worse Ace paying you of and a lucky
with two pair.
If people are over playing rag aces these days, should you me more or less pleased to see AK? seems obvious more happy but when you do the lot against A9 or similar it's no fun
what do you think?

you've only got top pair
you've only got top pair
you've only got top pair
you've only got top pair
you've only got top pair
you've only got top pair
you've only got top pair
you've only got top pair
you've only got top pair
Repeat as often as necessary

come on mate you're not trying.
I know that, but you cant be playing AK to hit two pair. if you are, any two cards will do. what Im saying is with people playing 'any Ace' poker do you feel better or worse about AK.
not like you to be dismissive

its a good point though Adam makes
there you are betting big to protect your TPTK against the flush draw, mateyboy comes along for the ride, no flush appears and the bugger is sitting there with A9 or A6 to use Adam's example
If you slow down and check ("I've only got top pair") after firing a bullet or two then he value bets the end and you have to call
good question. No particular answer here.

Yeah, I'm bunged up with cold, so the flippant reply is easier to do.
OK, serious answer.
I certainly used to keep hammering in this situation, but I have eased off now. With only TPTK I don't want to inflate the pot too much. I'll certainly stick out the old continuation bet, but if that gets called I mostly chicken out with only TPTK (unless I know the opponent has form).
Unfortunately, I don't put myself in the position to benefit from the flipside of this too often, as I don't call raises with raggy Aces. It's quite sweet calling down someone with two pair when you
know
they're overplaying TPTK.

i like to play the odds in this situation..... when holding two non paired cards your 49/1 to hit 2 pair on the flop. so in a cash game i bet 2/3 of the pot on the flop hoping to reel in mr A rag........ in a tourny im trap checking for england if my oppo is an aggressive player and let him do my betting for me. i may give a tighter player a free card to catch up then bet the turn.
just my thoughts hope this helps.
be lucky.

yea interesting. I think I'm usually betting it on the flop and if I'm called Im easing off. Live if I'm raised I'm getting a good nose for the two pair. online I dont seem to be able to spot it so I'm not getting away.

are you using any tracking software ? if you are, when the rocks are betting into you be on guard as they rarely bet into the raiser with TPTK only. As for tells i find betting patterns and the speed that they act to be the biggest give away.
As for the hand you described rocks will only check call you down with AQ worst, or check raise with two pair or a set.
i have played a lot of cash games online and generally find that the biggest online tell is betting patterns, even the better players dont mix it up enough when they have the goods.

it's not a specific hand, more of an 'off the top of my head' example.
I don't use tracking software. I suppose I should. All very well me keep saying I win live not online but I should take steps.
usually I'm mainly STT with some MTT but I've had a good cash day today on stars so I might stick with it a while. tracking might be more beneficial for cash I expect

Had this live yesterday, i raise with AK and 1 caller.
Flop Ace high, all the money goes in and he has A5 (2 pair) and i hit my King on the river!!
To be honest it's next to impossible to distinguish between someone playing 2 pair or just an ace rag, with the influx of some newer players just recently in my local casino it is becoming a very frustrating game.
I may just step up to a higher buyin and avoid them.
